When that particular stereo is supplied as new, it comes with a tray (called a mounting sleeve by Alpine), so unless specifically told that it wasn't supplied, why wouldn't someone expect it to be included when being sold on ebay?

IMO, it's no different to ordering any other electrical or electronic item and when it arrived, you found that a particular piece of it wasn't included which meant it couldn't be used until a further purchase had been made.
Well, the seller in question felt it necessary to mention that the original box wasn't being supplied, so why not mention the lack of a fitting cage as well?Well on a quick look at halfords website it tells you what you need to fit specific stereos, still reckon the cage is an extra
If that particular model originally would have come with it then unless told otherwise I would have thought it would still have it.0 -

Page 6 of the manual (viewable from the link I provided earlier)for that stereo shows exactly what is included when you buy that model.
A fitting sleeve is included as standard.0 -

To be fair, many cages are a one-fit deal/disposable item for security reasons. Once they are fitted into a car, they have to be butchered out, otherwise it would be far too easy for the head unit to be stolen.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Page 6? Really? A new model perhaps. Was this new? NO.
Hermione you need to get to the library more. Perhaps expand your reading matter.0 -

Many cages, so presumably not all. If it would have originally come with it then I still reckon the seller should have said it wasn't included.
I've never bought one but would expect that if I needed to provide something in order to make it work then it would say so.
I think this is one of the grey areas that can crop up on ebay, Paypal found in the sellers favour, I would be peeved if I were the buyer.0 -

So from that strange comment, I assume that if you bought a second hand car you wouldn't mind if it didn't have a steering wheel.
After all, one of these comes with a new model, but why should there be one with a used one?, and if there isn't, why should the seller need to state that it's missing?0 -

Now you are being silly. Some things are part and parcel, like a frying pan with a handle, a teapot with a lid....but something retro fitted (should I explain that to you?) may not include the fittings when it is secondhand.
Like an ebayer with common sense?
If there is any doubt, then the buyer should ask, not assume. Second hand doesn't mean it comes with remotes, cables and batteries......0 -

No it wasn't new. It was listed as used, and if you read the description for the radio there is a link on there as to what exactly "used" means.Used: An item that has been previously used. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended
How can anyone say that the stereo is "operational and functions as intended", when it is intended to be fitted into a car yet the mounts for this are not included?0 -
When using ebay you cant 'assume' anything. Yes the seller probably should have mentioned it was missing as lots of people on ebay seem to assume things. From the photo I would guess thats all you were bidding on and could have messaged the seller to ask before bidding.Married 30/08/14 :heartpuls0

Probably the same way you can list a cooker but not have the gas or electric supply to hook it up to.0
