No I don't totally agree with the OP but I see the point. If a part that would be reasonably expected to be with the item is not there it is common sense as a seller to mention that in your listing just to cover your back.

Too many people have leapt on the OP in this thread without applying a wee bit of common sense. The original listing is pretty poor and just lists the manufactures details without much of a description of the actual item or condition.

If you're listing used items it make sense to list all the problems including items that may reasonably be expected to be included. If I sell something without a charger (which I have) I would always state that one isn't included (even if one isn't present in the photos). It covers you as a seller and can stop problems before they happen.

The seller in this case was lucky if the OP had worded the case differently and asked for a full refund there is a good chance they could have won.

I'm with the OP on this.

When that particular stereo is supplied as new, it comes with a tray (called a mounting sleeve by Alpine), so unless specifically told that it wasn't supplied, why wouldn't someone expect it to be included when being sold on ebay?

IMO, it's no different to ordering any other electrical or electronic item and when it arrived, you found that a particular piece of it wasn't included which meant it couldn't be used until a further purchase had been made.

Well, the seller in question felt it necessary to mention that the original box wasn't being supplied, so why not mention the lack of a fitting cage as well?

If it's something that would normally be supplied with it when you buy new, then I would expect a seller to say if it wasn't going to be included.

Quite possibly, but if it is not shown in the photos, or mentioned in the description, wouldn't it also be expected for a potential buyer to ask the question before purchase?

6 of one, half a dozen of the other, as they say. The seller should have been clearer and the buyer should have asked probably.

Possibly but if each model comes with it's own fittings then I would expect it to be included. I know that the photo is classed as part of the description but as someone else has said the seller thought to mention that there was no original box, that wasn't in the photo but they felt it important to mention.

Well on a quick look at halfords website it tells you what you need to fit specific stereos, still reckon the cage is an extra
