I'm appalled that they didn't identify their own front-loaded mis-selling and just concentrated on the complaint reasons you gave.
Do note that the reconsideration can still result in another rejection, by which time it may be too late to go to FOS.
I also think they are taking entirely too long and deserve to pay the fee they are charged for each complaint referred to FOS.

Thanks for all your advice. I will give FOS a ring this week.

MIKEY49 when I called Barclay 4 weeks ago the impression I got was that it was taking longer because the case had been reopened. If I'm honest my initial letter to them was too general and did not make it clear my reason was front loaded ppi, so I got the standard rejection. When I wrote back being very specific, I had a letter within a week saying they would look into it again then 2 weeks later, the same " we need more time" letter as you.
I'm scared if I go to FOS then it will simply mean joining the back of the q and will have wasted the past 4 months. I think I will call again next week for update and if it's still being processed will take it from there.

Good luck, I hope you hear something soon ;)

    Hi Confused44

I think I will phone FOS next week just to see where I stand if I decide to wait for Barclays descision, have not actually had anything back for FOS to investigate as only refused on the grounds of supposedly not being able to find the information with not having a policy number. I have the full break down of how much i owed and the small amout of ppi interest they returned and the account number and that is it. Hopefully we will both get a successful outcome eventually.
Good luck to you also and will keep you posted.

    UPDATE.
phoned barclaycard while relaxing in the sun.
asked for an update on my claim to be told a letter was sent out on the 11th saying my claim had failed, and the reasons why.
never received letter,as i'm guessing they never posted it, and they wouldnt explain over the phone why i'd not won my claim, just that they would send out another copy.
    (another delaying tactic)
told them ,ok fos it is, and see you in court if needed.
didnt sound bothered at the other end of the line, and was happy to get rid of me.
thanks barclaycard for making me wait 16 weeks to be told "no".
i know i've got a good case, you know i've got a good case, but lets make him wait another few months before we pay out.
ITS MY MONEY,YOU CONNED ME OUT OF IT,SO PAY UP.

any advice now would be helpfull, got letter coming from the fos, only got few statements from account i'm claiming for,but all show ppi on them.

my reasons for my claim are:

    1. i was told at point of sale in branch that i couldnt have credit card unless i had the ppi part. "no ppi no card." . if i'd know it was optional i wouldn't have left it on my account for the full time i held it. wasnt until all this ppi scandal came out that i realised i was mis sold it.

    2. didnt need ppi as i had been in full employment for over 7 years, had one months full sick pay,and full pay if off with serious injury.

    3. if i was made redundant ,i had over seven years of redundancy pay coming to me,which would have covered the balance of my credit card, and would have been paid off in full.

"posted this on other common threads too, sorry if repeating myself. just trying to get help and hopefully it helps others ."

Just had this EXACT SAME CONVERSATION with Barclaycard. Complaint made on misselling at the end of March on the basis of me getting 6 months full and six months half pay so would not have been able to claim . Sent FOS paperwork in. Two letters in response saying they hadnt got it, then nothing.

Rang THEM 5 minutes ago and they are saying they had written to me on 11 June defending and I should have had a letter by now. Sorry I hadnt recieved and they would resend.

Sounds SUSPICIOUSLY like the script above. Ive asked for a note on my file saying I hadnt got the letter and will phone the FOS as soon as I receive it.

How can they defend when I wouldn't have been able to claim under the policy sold?

Hi Calw finally had a letter been upheld. However the offer i think is an insult £440 85 . Refund £290.82 +£26.49 ppi interest charged on premiums + 8% £123 54 total £440 85. They also said i could go to FOS if not happy . This account is already with them as i was sick of waiting .I sent this to Barclaycard Jan 2012. Hope you have a good outcome.
I have today rang barclaycard about my offer not been what i thought it would be. The guy i spoke to was really helpfull he said that they only go back 6yrs & if i had any old statements to copy ans send in which i have done . He said they will then recalculate the refund. So i have sent it off rec. delivery with a letter asking them to reply within 14 days . As i have already waited since Jan 12 for this decision. I was very suprised i got through to them as quick as i did i am usually on hold for 30 mins and more. Hope you all have good news soon. Will keep you posted.:D

Just a quick update on my claim, I phoned Barclays this afternoon and no further update, apart from reassuring me that it hadn't been forgotten about but generally saying they were inundated right now and as my case had been reopened, it was with a different dept and can take a long time to reach a decision. Based on that I took the advice given on Saturday my Moneyineptitude and contacted FOS who have logged my complaint. They advised that they will send out forms for me to complete, but to give Barclays a couple more weeks before sending them the forms back.
The main reason for complaint is single premium front loaded ppi on a Masterloan, with the usual 6 months full and 6 months half way etc.

I'm one step ahead in this process - sent my complaint to the FOS a few months ago, and they are now advising that they have such a backlog that I might hear back from them in the next six months!

If you have grounds for a complaint to the FOS, get it in - it'll be months before they get round to dealing with it anyway!

My complaint was recieved by the FOS 30th may and theyve. Just repl.ied to say will be up to a year with the backlogs which I'd sent mine to the fos sooner rather than waiting months and getting nowere with barclays

They refused mine on the grounds that I'd applied by post.

I wasn't going to go down the FOS route, I was just going to accept it.

But looking back, if it was done by post, could it have already been pre-ticked?

This was taken out around 2000ish.
