Orange data roaming.....a decent outcome...!
Options
As I had just bought my SII recently and was going abroad for 10 days I thought, why waste time searching for an internet cafe when away, plus pay over the odds for an hours browsing.
So I signed up for the £3 a day 30mb bundle, great I thought, am sure I'll use less than half of that per day and can browse where and when I want.
As nearly everywhere in France had Wi-fi etc I surfed quite a bit when I was away, obviously oblivious to how much data i was using. Only when I returned home and checked my online bank account did I realise I had accumulated £441 of browsing even with the bundle!!! I now know you can check how much you are using as you go along but didn't know nor indeed think to do so.
I phoned Orange up and they agreed to charge me the 150mb monthly rate instead, so saving me £303! I thought it was pretty good of them....!
I would indeed like to know what the typical hourly data usage in MBs for net browsing is though so I won't get caught out in future!
Secondly, is there a way to get better deals on a monthly paid contract or only with Orange?

When does your contract expire?0

I get the courtys pay as you go broadband chip, works out so much cheaper and use an unlocked dongle or smart phoneDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Your phone continues to use data even when you do nothing... apps update in the background, emails get pushed through to your phone etc!
It's not as simple as 'Open browser, look at page, close browser' and the data stops unfortunately.0 -
All three phones in the house are contract and smart phones.....even mail to a hotmail account?
Can they be turned off etc?0 -
Did you remove the EU data bar ?
1. What is the EU Data limit? We know how easy it is to get carried away using data when you’re abroad and come back to bills you didn’t expect. That’s why from 1st July 2010 we introduced a data limit of 16MB per month (Pay Monthly and mobile broadband) or 12MB per month (Pay As You Go) to your account so that you’ll never pay more than €50 (approximately £44 inc VAT) for sending data in the EU.

2. Where does the data limit apply?
List of countries: Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands and Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, French Guiana, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Guadeloupe (inc St Barthelemy and St Martin), Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Martinique, Moldova, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal (inc Azores and Madeira), Reunion, Romania, San Marino, Satellite, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain (inc. Canary and Balearic Islands), Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican City (Italy).
The data limit does not apply in non-EU countries.

3. How will I know when I have reached the data limit?
We'll send you a free text when you've used half of the limit and another when you’ve reached the limit, so you never spend more than you planned.
^ Top
4. What happens when I reach the limit?
When you reach the EU data limit, you won’t be able to check emails or access the internet. If you need to, you can remove the limit from your account by sending us a text (see below).
^ Top
5. What if I don’t want to limit the data I use when abroad?
It's easy to remove – just text “YES“ to 386.
N.B If the EU data limit is removed from your account, it stays removed unless you ask us to add it again.

6. What happens if I have a Travel Data bundle on my account?
If you have a Travel Data bundle with an allowance over the EU data limit (e.g. over 16MB if you are a Pay Monthly customer or over 12MB if you’re a Pay As You Go customer), the EU data limit does not apply.
N.B. the EU data limit does apply if you have a Travel Data bundle that is less than 16MB on Pay Monthly or 12MB on Pay As You Go.
Not got a bundle? Find out more on the Costs and bundles page

7. Over what period does the EU data limit measure my data use?
Your use will be measured on a calendar month basis, so your MB limit will reset on the 1st of every month.

8. So what happens when I’m abroad?
You’ll receive a text message when you start using data in the EU and, even if you choose not to have the data limit, we’ll still send you an alert when you’ve used 10MB to help you keep track. This alert will be sent to you regardless of which zone you are in.
Got another question? Pay Monthly customers can call Orange Customer Services free on 150 from an Orange Pay monthly phone, or 07973 100 150 from any other phone. Pay As You Go customers can call 450 from an Orange Pay As You Go phone, or 07973 100 450 from any other phoneSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -

SIIs......
Orange state on their web page that once you sign up to bundle, you sorta waive your right to going over daily limit...and charge you at £3 an MB!!!0 -
Off their site for 30mb bundle.......wrong or illegal?
- Enough data to send 30 emails with attachments, or browse the web on your phone for 1 ½ hours
- Activates when you use data within the EU
- You’ll only be charged the bundle fee each day you use data – so if you don’t use, you don’t pay
- Once your daily 30MB allowance has been used up, costs revert to £3.07/MB
- The bundle will last up until midnight of that same day (local time)
- All you need to do is buy it more than 24 hours before you travel, and we'll take care of the rest
- Just to let you know, when you take this bundle, we will remove the EU data limit of 16MB, giving you unlimited web browsing on your mobile. Remember, once you have used your bundle allowance, you will be charged £3.07/MB which will be uncapped
