Do you not think promoters guess that people who enter their comps from a 'blocked' source (ie used a method/app to hide where they have been referred from) suspect that they are from a comping website anyway!?

And do we really know that it diminishes our chances of winning? Does anyone know of any promoters who just immediately bin entries of those who have come from here or another comping website? maybe we are all just paranoid?
:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea

I doubt they would unless it's a really small site (such as a blog) with an owner who is particularly concerned. Lots of MSErs have won from here and I would guess most don't hide that they have come from MSE. I know I don't and have won.

There are a few sites that openly say that they don't like entrants from MSE and other competition sites how-ether I suspect that they are in a very small minority

I would imagine that any site that doesn't like MSE would in the first instance object to any of there competitions appearing on MSE, instead of filtering out and deleting entrants

even if you hide your MSE referral link some sites can still ascertain where you have come from via Google Analytic's and cookies

also hiding your MSE referral link en bloc with Ref Control or by editing registry settings or by using some Anti-virus or firewall programs can also cause problems with some sites and web pages as sometimes they need a referral link

I have been hiding my MSE referral link for about 2 years now initially I thought that I was winning more but I now think that it may just be a placebo effect

I am going to start sending my MSE referral link again for a few months and will re-access the situation then, and I will report back here to let you know if I think my win rate has improved or diminished ;)

I will do the same so we have at least two results to compare. I feel the same as you - I don't think it matters - companies must get so many entries and I doubt very much they would want to trawl through them to see where they have all come from!

I'm going to turn my referral blocker off too to see if it makes a difference and will report back also.

    Good luck guys. :D

I'm sorry but my little experiment has come to an end as I have found that clicking on links actually slows my comp entries down

I will explain why, as I comp from book marks I have all the days comps open in tabs

if I click on a link it will open in the same tab or in a new tab or a new window depending on the Firefox setting browser.link.open_new window in about:config a setting of 1 opens in the same tab - a setting of 2 opens in a new window - a setting of 3 opens in a new tab

dragging and dropping is more versatile as you can drag and drop the link into the same tab that you are viewing and it opens in the same tab

or you can drag and drop into the side of a tab or the end of the tabs bar and the link will open in a new tab

this saves a lot of time as you can do what you want to do in less clicks are also you are not constantly closing unwanted tabs down

    Best of Luck :)

hi GB, voting comps aren't supposed to be posted on the comps board :(

Just a reminder and for anyone who doesn't know, if you really have to post a Vote for Me competition it shouldn't be anywhere except the specific thread on the Referrers Board here.

    :TAh, thank-you flower :A.

 I normally avoid any voting comps like the plague and so does she, but didn't realise the tips they selected would go to a vote :o.

Wish they wouldn't do it...

When I was younger with more spare time on my hands to kill, I wanted to see how many competitions I could win if I entered 100 of them (after watching the movie 'shooting fish').I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Of 100 competitions I entered I won.....2. Both of which were by the same company(MTV). Never had much luck with the official competition websites but it seems to be worth entering the one offs you can find online. One piece of advice though. Create a new email address solely for it if you want to try it yourself, as you get bombarded with spam afterwards.

Thanks for sharing but just to let you know that you've posted this in the wrong place, it will probably be moved to the Discussion Sticky at the top of the board if you're looking for it later :) Although all of that advice is in the Getting Started Sticky, also at the top of the board.
