BarclayCard Missed Direct Debit

Hello!

Opened my barclaycard account last week of March and set up a direct debiot from my Barclays account. First payment due May 14th, and I have just noticed a late payment charge from Barclaycard for £12, they haven't taken the direct debit from my Barclays current account.

Barclaycard have had the direct debit bank details (which are correct) showing in my online banking since March, I have checked my Barclays current account and low and behold they haven't set up a direct debit?!

Where do I stand? I have sent an email pretty much asking !!!!!!! I hope they refund the £12 and ensure my credit report does not show a late payment, over 7 weeks is more than ample time to set up a direct debit surely?!

Did your Barclaycard statement advise that the payment would be taken by Direct Debit? If not you should have paid by another method this time and until it's set up.
Contact them and explain, possibly if you ask nicely, on this occasion they'll refund the £12.
Have you otherwise paid? If not, do so a.s.a.p.

No, I wasn't told in all truth, I have other credit cards and this hasn't happened before. The statements are online, the pdf button only shows a list of transactions. On the home screen it has shown my direct debit details since March, so wrongly or rightly I assumed it was set up? There is no where on the statement that states payment method, not in my April statement, or the statement produced yesterday :s
I have emailed them and will see what they say?

Me again! If I gave them my dd details on 26th March and the April statement was generated on the 16th April that is ample time for the direct debit to be on their system?
My home screen states 'you're paying minumum amount my direct debit' under the 'Pay Your Card Bill' section....

I think usually when you set up a direct debit, there is no guarantee it will be done straight away and take effect that same month - so usually there are disclaimers like "please continue to make payments" etc., extending over about 6 weeks or so. Of course there's no good reason for it to take this long, but I'm sure I've seen warnings like that.

But this sounds like a fuzzy area where your best bet is to just call and try to explain and ask as nicely as possible, and if you're lucky you might get some leniency. As has been noted in other threads, some credit card companies seem to be much less willing to be helpful than they were in the past, so this may not get you anywhere - but can't hurt to try.

Haven't seen any bad feedback about Barclays with regard to leniency, so maybe they are still ok:

No, not usually and those dates also include the 4 day Easter weekend.
If you had a 0% deal check you still have it as they usually go along with adding default charges.

Even my May statement doesn't have a date for payment to be taken, nor does it state the method of payment? Just when I click into the direct debit screen it states I have a dd set up for the minimum amount.

I have sent them a secure message so will see what they say!

Never had this issue with virgin/cap one whom I have set up dd's with and paid via dd since the first statement. I would understand if the statement was generated a week after but 3 weeks for statement generation and another 4 weeks til the payment is due, to miss the direct debit is pushing it imho!

Barclaycard is hopeless if you're paperless. The online PDF is no substitute for the paper statement, and the website is disconnected from the real system, so it guesses. Apart from other interesting bugs, it will say that they are going to take the DD for the first payment, when they aren't. Later they will catch you out the other way, by taking the DD after the website tells you they won't.

    Glad it's not just me!

It's so annoying, and I don't want it to damage my credit rating! I have now made payment using my debit card for April and May's statement...

I had a few problems between November and March this year with my Barclaycard. I had asked them to change my statement date which they did but then they cancelled my DD completely and it took them 4 months and a number of telephone calls to sort it out.
I did find however that after I escalated my call to a 'complaint' they dealt with it very quickly and refunded all the interest and charges that had been applied to my account and put my balance trasfer rate back onto my account.

If you call them they and explain they will probably refund the charges for you. Also confirm with them that your DD has definitely been set up correctly and is in place for next month. Write down the time and date you call them and get the name of the person you speak to just in case you have to call back next month!
