just to give you a price idea, my mrs is moving a 1 bed flat 200 miles north. she got 4 quotes all of them said it would fit in 1 LWB High back. quotes were:
£350 - 2 men and van
£425 - 1 man and van
£300 - 1 man and van
£300 - 2 men and van
managed to get the 300 with 2 men down to 270. they turned up at 8.10 this morning, and they were loaded up and about to leave (van near full) by half 9.
look in shop windows and buy a local paper. also could be worth popping into a couple of small local shops and asking. ours was from asking in a shop if they knew anyone0 -
Thanks for the replies all. Some excellent advice on here, and I am glad that there is at least some information now on quotes and websites for those in the same boat.
In the end I agreed a price with a reputable local company for 2 men and a 3.5t van for £55ph inc VAT, which I am very happy with. Includes insurance etc, and charge by the 15min so if the job takes less time, you pay less!
They also agreed that we could go to their warehouse to pick up as many 2nd hand boxes as we want. If it all works out, I will name them on here. If anyone wants the name, please PM me.
One thing to be aware of...often you are responsible for an excess should THEY drop anything! This can normally be waived (for a fee) but I was certainly surprised...0 -
Hi Larry. as mentioned, you could try Shiply but they do charge which put me off. And also read an earlier thread entitled " Shiply is shockingly bad. I have used 2 small local companies by just searching google "man and van" plus my town but it is very difficult to see who is reliable or not. I was happy with aussimanandvan but they where by far the most expensive.
There are also man and van companies who advertise on eBay, so why not try searching eBay and you can also see the company feedback that way. Anyvan also has a bidding process, but as the previous poster mentioned, be prepared to be bombarded with calls!
1manandvan did a job for me in London but they were not the cheapest quote I got. They do have a very handy van size guid and a forum and I was happy with them though.0 -
There is a very good website called anyvan.com. This good website, there is no charge, and you go by quotes and feedback review.once you have chosen the company, you pay deposit, and that deposit will deducted from the quote. You can e-mail the company and talk details before you accept the quote. A good website.:j
not in my experience! yes there were a lot of quotes but "some" of the people were aggressive when i turned them down and a lot were downright rude . i certainly would never use or recommend them .
we ended up hiring a van moving ourselves and paying a local guy to move the washing maching and it all came in almost £150 cheaper than the lowest anyvan quote !This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
really you dont want to be taking an hourly quote , my bil runs one of these companys , the hourly rate is how they make their money , so to speak , try to agree an all in rateNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

We moved today our 2 bed house fully furnished within planned time 5 hours in one fully loaded Luton Van and 3 very helpful men for only £320 fully insured.
They coped extremely well keeping everyone very happy. This was my 3rd move in 5 years and the first time nothing got broken.
For the same job we had an estimate from 3 other companies before, first company quoted us £720 and second £610 and third ££680 ( + VAT )
This is not saving 30-40 pounds, but more than 100%.
We booked our move with London-Man-Van.com
Very easy booking form, you need to select all order details and then you see the price and if you accept their price you need to complete booking form and DONE. Easy as 2+2.
I would have no hesitation on recommending this company to anyone.0
