2.0 diesel is not as popular because most of the buyers have gone for the (excellent) 1.6 tdci whch has enough power for most situations...

Mine was decent enough - 59 plate so facelift, 6 speed and a dpf (i believe). Got low to mid 40's mpg wise - that was an 80 mile round trip daily usually in traffic that whilst it didn't usually stop I wasn't able to sit at a constant speed either. The engine was pretty decent, reasonable amount of pull. Don't expect 55mpg and you wont be disappointed.

Interior wise I didn't much like the finish but I appreciated the phone prep and DAB, no climate was a bit odd mind you. I had a couple of squeaks and rattles from day one inside the car and generally felt the interior wasn't particularly well screwed together - worth having a careful listen when test driving.

Great, thanks. I would be content with around 45mpg on longer journeys (which is pretty much all I do) so that sounds promising.

If I wanted a top-class interior, I certainly wouldn't buy a Ford! I don't think it looks tacky though, just rather.. 'average'.

Weird that it doesn't have climate though.. would have expected it to have that feature - annoying.

Thanks very much for the info!

No problem, check what that particular model year of focus should have as i believe they messed around with the titanium trim quite a bit. If it's of interest, the car I have now (ctdi EX civic) is a much better all rounder than the focus was, for me at least.

I prefer the interior, only toy/feature it could do with is DAB, better screwed together inside, bigger in the back, boot is probably a little bigger but not massively so, the engine is rougher but pulls better and no dpf to go wrong either - though they like to eat clutches (unless it's been replaced since 2010).

I considered the Civic, as well as the Vauxhall Astra Sport model but haven't heard the best stories about reliability and fuel efficiency on the more recent models for the Civic and reliability for the Astra.

I'm also relatively heavy on my clutch & a relatively 'enthusiastic' driver (don't get me wrong, I drive safely) so I'd imagine poor clutch build + my driving = disaster.

Not sure where you seen reliability issues with the civic i've not seen or experienced anything of the sort bar the clutch. As above so long as it's a 2010 on clutch you would be fine. I've a remap and honda part which still holds up perfectly well.

Fuel wise it's the same or a little better than the focus was -doesn't really matter at the end of the day though the focus is perfectly decent.

2006 Civic ES 2.2 diesel - clutch failed at 39k miles on mine. They are known to not be man enough for the job...

.....which is exactly what I said. The 2010 325 clutch is far better, as above mine is fine even with the map

I'm likely looking for an 08/58 plate so I guess that rules out the Civic anyway. :(
