Hi all,

Has anyone heard anything about this car that would put you off purchasing it? (e.g. major flaws with the car, mpg nowhere near accurate)

On the flip side, does anyone own one and love it?

Example: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201207450519215/

Thanks.

(sorry, wrong forum.. can this be moved?!)

    Hi

I had the opportunity to drive one of these for a while & it was one of the best cars I'd driven. Brilliant all round to be honest.

Got to disagree there. Although the ride is good, I thought the gearbox was clunky and the engine isn't as good as many other modern diesels. The one I drove was a hire car, though, so had probably had a hard life, albeit only 13k on the clock.

The Ford Focus is not usually in the top 3 best sellers in the UK without good reason :)

... and recently it's often only pipped to the top spot by Ford's own Fiesta.

Please ignore my comment, I read your question wrong.... although on the positive the OH is driving one at the moment so I believe the MPG must be good..

After 20+ years of having company cars I now get a car allowance. I decided on, and am now on my second Focus and think it's a brilliant car to drive.

No problems with either one(touch wood:rotfl:) and I am getting the mpg I expected. Nothing like the manufacturers claims, but near enough to what I had researched.

the Ford Focus Owners Club (FFOC) have a great website

The only problem is the price. Ford mass produce cars and sell millions. To both private and fleet customers. This means that the market can become flooded and the rates of depreciation can be massive. This should give you some idea what i mean. http://www.whatcar.com/car-depreciation-calculator That said if you can get one at a good price go for it, as it will do exactly what is says on the tin and the titanium is a nice specification with loads of goodies.

Bill - what mpg are you getting out of it?

I had a 2002 2.0 petrol Focus and found it drank fuel - but have heard better things about the newer 2.0 diesel.

Have you driven the older model Focus? If so, how would you compare the two? I found my old model Focus an excellent drive so would be a bit disappointed to find they'd wrecked the gear box.

Not too worried about this - I fully understand as soon as I buy any car, I automatically lose a good amount of money. Such is the way of the world! :( I believe the 2.0 is less common than the other engine sizes (certainly, there are far less for sale) which could work either very nicely or very badly when I go on to sell. There may be less because people simply don't want them - but also there may be less for sale because fleets went for the slightly lower spec, smaller engined version.
  • Diesel Focuses (at least the newer ones) do not depreciate as much as some cars. Certainly compared to the petrol models - you just have to compare prices on autotrader to see that.

The one I had was a six-speed gearbox. I think the old ones were five speed so different gearbox?

It just felt very clunky but as I said, the car I was driving had a hard life, which probably wouldn't have helped!

I guess that's something that's best checked out during a test drive. As long as the ride was good...

Why do you say the engine isn't as good as other modern diesels?
