Neighbour claiming her cat is the father of kittens and demanding half the litter

This sounds ludicrous and half of me is laughing as i type but this situation occurred yesterday.
My cat has had a litter of kittens, a real little mish mash of tabbies, black and whites, tabby and white etc. They are lovely little bundles who when ready will go to vetted homes.
One of my sons friends wanted to look at them yesterday and he said 2 of them looked like his cat, my son laughed and did a proper Jeremy Kyle moment saying DNA tests prove your cat is the father, to be honest we were all laughing and joking about maintenance :rotfl:
A little while later this boys sister aproached me saying your cats had kittens, my cat is the dad, my mum wants some kittens. I was polite and stated that they would not be ready for a while and that i would let them know when they were and how much.
She has returned again saying that as their cat is the dad she should get a free cat.
Now the mother has turned up on my doorstep, quite aggresive stating she owns half the litter. I politely told her that we had no way of knowing who had fathered the kittens and that she had no claim, at which point she started shouting that they were her kittens. I then had a stroke of genius (or so i thought) and said OK, if you believe you can claim half the kittens then you should be jointly liable for the cost of care of the kittens and the mother, i.e vets bills, vaccinations, food etc and which point she became histerical, i ended up shutting the door on her because she was screaming.
Now her husband has waded in and is banging on our door demanding kittens, i cant quite believe this is happening, any advise would be appreciated, i think i've tried to be reasonable but apparently not?

I would approach your local police and report their aggressive behaviour/harrassment. I cannot see how they would have any legal ownership, I wouldn't even entertain them with going down the route of wanting half the costs if they want half the litter. Though I can imagine if you're approached them to say your cat had needed a caesarian and you wanted half of the £2000 emergency vet bill/operation cost because their cat had impregnated her, they'd soon be disagreeing with the 50:50 split!
I would be concerned about the fallout though and would consider whether they'd take any revenge out against your cat.0 -
are you going to get your cat sterilised now she has had kittens? Also the daft neighbours need to get theirs done!0

Absolutely, unfortunately they wont, their cat is always chasing un neutered females, i was unfortunate in that my house cat got out and he caught her, wont be taking the same chance again.0 -

So you had unspayed female cat wandering about and getting pregnant with unknown tom?
Overload of kittens aside, have you ever heard of feeline FIV?
Neighbour is out of order but this aside... no words0 -

Hi,
if you've got any daughters don't let them roam, then you'll have a real paternity problem.0 -
So sorry for your problem but cannot stop laughing some people eh, do hope you dont have too much bother with the neighbours, if so then the
Police are your best bet. Enjoy your kittens.Slimming World at target0 -
Another vote for the Police. At the very least, it gets something on the record regarding what is, in fact, threats and intimidation.
Completely unacceptable behaviour - what else are they going to lay claim to?0 -

So you do know the paternity!
House cat or not, the world does not need more (pointless) domestic cats. Your failure to spay was highly irresponsible.Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.
