What do you think of this kitchen design?

What's odd? Because no one else does it or in the past Hobs have always been on top of ovens ?
Get it drawn up and see what it looks like ?

Hehe good point! I'll draw it up or get the designer to switch them round when I get their 3D renders.

Keep the oven on your preferred wall.
Put a 300mm unit either side of the oven/hob.
Use 800mm corner units instead of 1000mm and this would allow you to get a 800mm set of pan drawers (between both Le Mans units)

Depending on the kitchen company, you may need a base panel either side of the oven to allow for colour coded panels either side of the integrated extractor.

All great suggestions, will look at doing these. Thanks very much.

Wow thanks for that Kitchen DesignR it looks fab, I especially like the contrasted wall units so will definately have a look for a colour combination that will hopefully work for us. Its a shame that I don't think you can get a half curve on a slim unit as we'd like the peninsula to have an overhang and due to space issues we couldn't fit that with a full depth base unit as you've shown. I think we'd just put a quarter curve facing into the dining area I suppose.

One question though do you find that the fridge is too overpowering as that was our big worry given the width of the kitchen.

Given our alternative was a built under integrated freezer USA style is great for us and better than our current 70/30 integrated tall one.

I think we will have to sacrifice the curved unit on the right hand side but keep the curve on the worktop on one side to increase the walk in gap as we would want a regular unit still facing into the kitchen. I'm guessing that you have a 300mm base beside the curve which could be expanded to 400 or 500 depending on just how much space we want.

Otherwise we have to go back to built under fridge and freezer which looks great but doesn't have the space we want.

Looks fab though I'm not sure the pink would be a colour we'd go for.

Looks lovely evokit but I'm not sure we have the room to go round the wall on the left.

I've included all the dimensions of the kitchen and as you can see there is only 280mm available on that wall and I thought the curved units were typically 300mm. I've also included a picture we took of the kitchen before we moved in (all we've done is brought our own table). As you can see the biggest bit of available worktop is to the right of the sink which is rubbish for preparing food so I love both these designs with the big expanses of worktop in the right place.

Where we've put the peninsula is pretty much dead space currently, you can't put anything there as it's in the middle of the room and you don't even naturally walk through most of it hence the breakfast bar.

    Hi Jaynne

Had you considered swapping the positions of the fridge freezer and peninsula? I think it would look a lot nicer to walk into the room and see a nice peninsula rather than a great big fridge. You would also find the fridge freezer or tall units between the french windows and the window will block the light.

It was something we thought about as we do worry about the big fridge but we really wanted the hob and peninsula close as when we are having friends over they can sit at it and talk to us while we cook or when we have more people they would be at the dinning table. We also love the worktop space around the hob that we have now, if you put the hob beside the sink it loses that a lot or if it's on the back wall where it is currently you have your back to everyone.

It's certainly a trade off between aesthetics and functionality and I'm thinking we might reduce the peninsula size further to increase the walk space between it and the fridge to make it look better based on the suggestions here (that of course reduces cupboard space even further :()

    Hi Jaynne

I wouldn't get too hung up on your idea of not having your back to people while you are in front of the hob. You're not going to be standing there continuously for half an hour are you? Surely you put the pan on, through the initial ingredient in then go back to it now and again for a stir.

I think the much better kitchen design would be to put the fridge freezer or tall units on the left wall, hob on the back wall centered then sink and peninsula on the window wall. I think this will look the best and give you the maximum amount of useful worktop space and storage space.
