I think you make a good point: most of the negative comments I have seen about Santander are to do with overdraft charges. The few positive, or neutral, ones appear to be from people who like the Santander savings interest rates, and their 1-2-3 cashback and interest.

I think that's true of the current trend in banking and not really unique to Santander. There appears to be more encouragement to deposit money and save and discouragement from overdrawing. Overdrafts these days are very much in the emergency, last resort money category. It's not really a fundamental change but more of a revision. But in the current atmosphere of a double-dip recession it's probably prudent to do that.

Count me in too. Just opened an ISA Major account - completed online application evening of 15th May, transferred full year's allowance morning of 17th May and they've already confirmed that it's in my ISA account. Job done.

Am truly amazed - it was with fear and trepidation that I opened the ISA account (attracted by the interest rate) after truly dreadful experience with Alliance & Leicester current accounts. I'm an RBS customer (and shareholder) who has been sold to Santander. Last week I closed all my RBS England accounts. I have accounts in Edinburgh anyway, so will just stick with those.

But credit where it's due. It worked well for me on this occasion.
