Having reviewed this myself, at the cheap end the M009S type clones look like the best cheap usable model.
Then the Archos G3.
And then the Tab 2.
The prob I have is that each time you creep up to the next price bracket you think well I may as well spend a little more. And then you end up looking at the iPad 3, which I don't want!
So then I end up back at the cheapie M009S models. I kinda think at that price it's worth a punt. But there are some niggly things about it which makes me start to creep up the price brackets...!

Yeah i think its pretty good . Im no techy but it does seem to have all the relevant bits and its at the right kind of brass. There awaiting the 3rd batch to arrive now. I did email them and got a swift reply saying that batch 4 is probably going to have a bigger capacity battery of 7800mAh, the current one is 500 mAh.
I am getting a little confused tho with the GPS / 3G bit
is this the bit needed to tether?0 -
[Deleted User] wrote:Yes but I see it has GPS and runs iplayer. Maybe you could post your experience of using it? Does it really run Iplayer and Youtube video smoothly? Battery life etc
I haven't used iplayer much, i rememebr that sometimes it has been great, other times seemed to buffer a lot - could be down to location from router though. Youtube has been OK too, though I haven't used that in earnest either. Video playback is OK up to 720p, but can be affected by other apps running depending on the video encoding and how much the hw struggles to decode it. But I haven't had a problem with this for a while now.
GPS is good now, may take a minute the first time it is run for a while, after that reconnects in 10 seconds. Battery life has improved with the development of CyanogenMod7 (look it up if you're unfamiliar with what this is), in sleep it uses hardly anything (great for always-on), and the quoted figure of 7 hours active use is probably achievable depending what you do with it.
I never give a whole-hearted recommendation for tech like this, everyone has different requirements. Plus, this tablet is nearly a year old, and no doubt superseded by something else (especially as the A1 doesn't have stellar specs). But it is well built, and does everything I expect.0 -

What about this, sounds like a good spec and a decent price?0 -

I am looking for a "cheap and cheerful" way to check email and browse web when away from home using wifi and this seems to be ok.

Look forward to our responses
I bought the above a week ago. It seems to do what it says on the box bearing in mind the price. I have used an ipad before so if I were to compare the two, for now I would say that in doesn't seem as 'smooth' as the ipad. You can use the iplayer. I have not yet attached a 3g dongle to it yet as that was the reason I bought it. Battery life is poor but then I expected that.-Keep your eyes to the sunshine and you would not see the shadows-

Do you already have a smartphone or an iPod? They are all WiFi-capable these days. I often whip out my device (ooh-err mother) and have a little browse when I'm in range of a hotspot - much cheaper than 3G!Je suis Charlie.0
