I never have and never will pay sticker price for a car, hagglings part of the fun.I generally aim for 10-15% off, they dont budge I walk.Plenty of cars in the sea.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0 -
This has always worked for me -- trade and private. Once you have spotted the car you want, print some similar models with cheaper price tags from Autotrader. Engage the salesperson and be positive aboout the car then pull out the ads and say that you would buy but you have seen this one with lower miles and £x cheaper and feel compelled to see it first before deciding (make sure the ad isn't the other end of the country). I think this is more convincing than just asking for money off and has always resulted in a price drop for me.Je suis sabot...0

Know a little about the specs of the car your going to buy.
Once we found the car model/type/engine size that we wanted. It was a case of searching for the car at the right price.
Once you have the car you want in your mind, you can search on eBay / Autotrader etc within a range of 50-60 miles and start talking prices with the dealer (i've seen it here with XYZ mileage, but with this spec/trim etc).
Once they know that your looking for that "type" of car, and there is a better price elsewhere they may start to come down to "match that offer"

Or if it is the other end of the country, photoshop the distance to be 10 mile down the road, they aren't going to check on the computer :A0 -
I'm not aware of anyone in my area who still uses the fixed price method anymore, but you'd be surprised, I'd say 75%, of the number of people who don't ask for money off or any kind of extras. Makes life dull, but profitable.
On the technique of going in with lots of details of similar cars in the area for less money, that one has always puzzled me. I'm not saying don't do your homework, but if the aforementioned short-wearing dangler tells me of all the wonderful, better, cheaper cars down the road, I always ask why they haven't bought them then.0 -

I think the point is not that another car is better (you haven't seen it yet) but that you need to check it out before deciding as it is cheaper.Je suis sabot...0 -
cheapest is not always best of course
spectacularly true with over described dross cars
i never over egg my adverts but i do love it when a customer says they have others to view but often return to me to purchase
the nasty ones i love it when i say oh that cars sold
or you just passed it driving away did you not see it?
such fun can be had some days if the sun is shining the lambs are bleating and ive got jam sarnies for lunch:D0 -
One thing's for sure is that nobody should worry about missing out on a car. There are always plenty of others to choose from.Je suis sabot...0
