Well then I hope you work at the garage I've been looking at.. So what do you define as "ask properly"??

You're the customer, anyway you want. If he takes exception, you're never going have a decent relationship, so walk away, unless you really are happy that you can't go back if you have any problem later, and it's cheap enough to support that. You're doing him a favour, you're feeding him this week, he's not doing anything for you. Feed someone you like.

    just be polite:)
like anywhere first impressions are lasting impressions so if you walk on the forecourt and met politely but not chased round then you know you can deal with like minded people,if someone comes up to you and follows you like a a puppy dog just gett outa there
im sure you know what i mean

Do you think asking for the car for X amount (say in line with the What car valuation) will secure me the car... If not suppose I should walk away?
Thoughts please from anyone in the know.

    you wont get a discount
    you want an overpriced vw
to confirm to seller you are a vw type person go on sales type emporium in men shorts, probably a bit of a beard and if of a certain age glasses on a string (parts of anotomy hanging out of shorts whilst having one leg in car revving it is extra but often seen)
even if you are a woman:D
a vw buyer can be seen at 400 yards with magnifying glass in hand looking at panel gaps and checking service history down to the day
this is why vw cars are so expensive as salespeople need double lobotomys after dealing with these timewasting tyre kicking fools
    get a ford
    :)

The cars worth what someone will pay for it. The dealer can either sell it, or wait for the next customer. Equally, if you keep walking away, you may never find a dealer that isn't willing to wait for someone else.

He's in a good mood today, normally he hates all his customers, but apparently he found one he liked (well paid the full price anyway)
