Our son is in karting. We haven't tried to get sponsorship but have read that it is near impossible, especially if you are not winning all the time.

One tip I was told was, when approaching a company for sponsorship, is to put to them what you can do for them and not what they can do for you. So, for example, how many people will see the company name. How you will promote them (ie mentioning the company in local newspaper articles). And if you do get money from the company, keep them updated, send them newspaper articles mentioning their name, etc

    Good luck.

    Local Council ?

The majority (sadly) don't have enough money to run their statutory services well, never mind have any to spare to support young athletes.
