Continuous Broadband Speed Monitor

Yes, I found this, I haven't looked into it, is it any good?
Unfortunately the old version of this, which is free, is next to useless as it doesn't keep a log file. Their latest version does but you can only get it if you buy another product that you don't want - although separate programs you cant uninstall one without the other (I checked with them). You cannot even BUY the monitor separately.
I have a problem with my connection dropping at about the same time every day but my ISP (which is actually quite a good one) need proof of this to be able to argue it with OpenReach. The problem is that the problem is intermittent and lasts less than 30 minutes each time so regular testing is the only sure way.
The amount of data used by pinging even every five minutes would be minute and have no impact on data usage unless you have a miniscule amount. For anything more than 1gb a month you wouldn't notice it.
Given how obsessed we all are with internet performance it is amazing that there are not hundreds of these little utilities0 -
I had this problem a while ago, with Talk Talk, so I kept ringing and complaining, and as ever sods law, the speed was OK when I got through. However, I persevered and kept being a PITA with them, and then got given a internetspeedtest.net to run, and then put my phone number on it which records at their end. I bored them silly with slow readings, whenever it happened, and then one Sunday afternoon again, refused to speak with a operative reading from a script and demanded his manager, explaining it was not him I was complaining about but the uselessness of continuing with him not understanding. I got a manager, he could see the recorded speeds and as we were talking I kept running the test, and it went slow to none existent and he could see it happening. They then fixed it for me. Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
I've also had some problems with broadband speed so I have been using a Raspberry Pi computer (tiny thing that costs £30) plugged directly into my Virgin Media Superhub to measure the speed using speedtest.net every hour and log the info to a website so I can graph the data and see what's going on.
If you want to do the same, then I've put instructions on my blog but as a new user I can't post the address! If you google for "scphillips blog" you'll find it though.
I hope that might help someone!0 -

The problem with a speed test is that you are testing the connection of the speedtest site as well as your own.
Depending on which server i choose for the test the result varies a lot.
My old test.
Just done this (Coventry)
