Then I think you are looking at a Shuttle (eg SZ68R), you can buy them made up, or get someone to put one together for you.

Perhaps now peeps will give an idea of the spec you want, in the model posted above, it has the box, power supply and motherboard: You need additionally

    CPU maybe an I3 2100
    RAM DDR3 6-8gb
    !TB SATA II hdd
    DVDRW
8 channel sound is on board which I believe should be good enough, otherwise a Creative Audigy board
    Graphics eg AMD HD 6850

Good idea but is unlikely to meet OP's graphics/sound objectives, unless you know of a model that would do the job?

If the primary use will be movies then something cheaper will do the job.

You don't need fancy graphics, cards 5 years old are perfectly capable of full HD and better.
some onboard these days will be morethan good enough

my £220 dell outlet with a £10 end of range card does movies fine.

Future proofing is expensive and the extra when you realy need it will be 1/2 the cost)or less) as an upgrade.

The trick with dell used to be buy with the shortest warrenty and they phone up and offer 3 years at 1/2 price

How old and whats wrong with the PC's you have?

The PC is moving to different location so I need another one to replicate its job - I did upgrade the the sound and graphics cards when I changed my monitor but the HD is smallish 320GB and it has already had 2 new HD's under warranty as well as a power supply

Sound and graphics are very important to me and I noticed that my present one does have times when I am busy that the fan is very noisy for say a minute or two

I do not mind spending less I just do not want to end up with something that frustrates me because of its performance

I suppose what I really want is to get a good deal from Dells site or possibly 2nd hand from eBay and as you say negotiate a cheaper 3 year warranty down the line - possibly a previous generation that is high spec but no good to the present buyers who are interested in gaming

I know it isn't what you asked for per se, but...

How about you get a standalone hard disk media player with DVD drive and network connectivity (maybe one you can feed an external USB hard drive too), then also get a cheapo tablet for emails etc.

More form factors available and you might save a few quids instead of a gaming-spec machine with a media player form factor?

do the cards need to move to the new location.

perhaps look at silent fans for some of the budget

what requirements for the PC in the new location, would a cheap new one do for that and selective updrades to the current one.

I think with focused selections you will save money from the budget for the next one.

It is easy to overspend on computers.

This PC (as it is) HAS to move - the new one needs to be a fresh start but with better capabilities

I have seen this machine for sale 2nd hand with 4 months warranty left

I have contacted Dell who say I can perform a transfer of ownership and upgrade any warranties now or later

    Any thoughts?
