Does mash potato reheat well?

Looking for some time saving ideas for meals when we work late...
If I make a huge lot of mash in one go will it reheat well over a few days? I've tried boiling extra potatos before and using the next day, but they start to turn black and do not mash too well imo and are only good for frying.

My daughter sometimes microwaves it, you have to be sure it gets hot right in the middle.0

Never tried. Maybe you could make extra mash and use it in the following ways
Make extra mash and use on shepherds pie or fish pie, for making fish cakes or potato cakes to be fried the next day.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

I often do this. I mash the spuds plain then add milk and butter to the portion I'm eating that day. When I reheat, I add milk etc to prevent it sticking to the pan. If I had a micro, I'd use that!0

Thank you. I will give it a try next week then.
Does the mash turn brown in the fridge?0 -
I reheat mash alot of becuase I'm slightly obsessed by it and consequently always make more than I can actually eat!
I find that it doesn't go a weird colour in the fridge but it will be a bit hard while cold!
I heat it up in the microwave stirring it every so often to make sure it heats through properly. (It's gets easier to stir the warmer it gets!) I've not noticed any change in taste after reheating it but to be fair I don't have the most sophisticated palate!Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -
I'm in agreement with Fritha!! I always make too much, then keep some in the fridge and freeze some. Reheats beautifully in both cases! Now you've got me wanting some and for the first time in ages I know there's none in the fridge or freezer:rotfl:You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0

I do notice a difference in taste once it is reheated - now this maybe due to the butter I put in it originally...but all I know is that it does not taste quite the same. I have not tried freezing it - but seeing as you can buy frozen mash I presume this would be ok.I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

I'd have to agree with the other posters. I always make too much mash on purpose. The surplus, I pop into a container in the freezer, when I have enough (often from more than one batch), I defrost, pop in the microwave, beat it thoroughly, adjust to taste and I've never had a problem.
The other thing I do, is make duchess potatoes (piped shapes) and potato croquets (sp?) sometimes adding cheese for variation. They all freeze well. Sometimes I defrost, sometimes I pop them straight into the oven.New Mantra: I must not visit MSE until after I've completed all my chores!!!!!0 -
You can heat in a dish in the oven if that is on for whatever you want to serve the mash with. Just make sure it is moist with milk and butter or spread, and dot extra spread on the top. This gives a crispy topping - a bit like shepherds pie without the meat.0

I read somewhere that leftover potatoes can be as bad as left over rice for causing food poisoning as pototoes & rice can produce the same bacteria.
I think it said that these bacteria cannot be killed by reheating so be very careful to cool the mash very quickly & store in the fridge asap.0
