I seem to remember reading if you store them standing, the cork dries out and air gets in so the wine goes off.....
Dont know if thats any help, I am a diet pepsi drinker - wine sends me to sleep :rotfl:
Thank you, no they are standing up but they are screw tops. and i hate to admit covered in dust!!!0 -

Hi
I'd like to give this a try please. There is me, 2 adult children of 18 and 20 and my youngest of 15. My challenge for June is £260 which is a guess. I do my shopping with Tesco online. If you know of a cheaper supermarket who delivers then let me know.0 -
I've come back to MSE after a year long absence  and my food shopping is an area I know I can make improvements in! So if ya'll will have me I would like to sign up for the June challenge (which started on the 25th for me though I haven't done any shopping from this paypacket yet).
I have no idea where to start so I'm going to plump for £200 that's for me and OH. I know this is probably quite high for 2 adults, but I need to get the hang of meal planning and batch cooking etc!0 -
Hi
I really really need to join again as you lovely peeps helped me keep a tighter reign on the spending so here goes...
I'm going to plump for £400 this month but will hopefully spend less as more and more in the garden starts growing:D.
Jil "new" wine doesnt store the same way as more mature wine but should certainly still be okay to drink and definately okay for cooking with but we so rarely have any for any length of time i can't say ive kept it that long:rotfl:.
Good luck to allMoving towards a life that is more relaxed and kinder to the environment (embracing my inner hippy:D) .:j0 -
What a lovely afternoon.
Seeds planted but not yet watered as there is full sun on all the raised beds. Will do so after dusk.
I'm VERY muddy n overheated now.
Put pretty much every seed in that I could from my seed collection. I know it's hit n miss but better that than nothing
I saw a few ladybirds and a lot of bees which made me very happy (I am easily pleased!).
I'm also overjoyed to find that my currants (I don't know what kind they are yet as I planted last year and forgotten what they are!) and mt raspberries are pretty out of control. What hardy tough plants!! :j. I have never watered them and the beds at the bottom of the garden are like a jungle. Loads of bees on the raspberry blossoms so I'm really thrilled.
I haven't ventured into the bottom of the garden so I was very surprised
I bought a few more sticks of rhubarb in.
My parsley is wild n thriving too. Will have to google ways of using it up as I hardly use it!
The cultivated strawberries are struggling through lack of watering so I must keep on top of that. Potatoes look like they are doing ok. (a lot are from old potatoes that were left in!)
Fruit trees are abysmal. Hardly any blossom this spring. I cut them all back HARD last year as they are all dwarf varieties that were taking over the top of the garden. Oh well.
The alpine strawberries? Are doing terrifically well though. They were from a couple of plants that I brought home on a woodland walk. They are the size of your little fingernail if not smaller and taste slightly like vanilla (in my opinion). I guess cos they are a wild variety they can thrive on my sad neglect.
The hazelnut bush is HUGE now too. We had a bumper crop last year for the first time. I discovered I am developing an allergy to them though. Typical!
All in all, the garden isn't in as bad a shape as I thought.
Here's to getting for free garden produce in the not too distant future
I better go and get something to drink now.... *reaches for the water jug*
Edit: just want to say thanks to foorenceem for the idea of roasted onions!
Had one today with roast pork, creamed potatoes, mushrooms n carrots! It was really sweet and is another great way to use up my glut of onions:T:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A
Grocery Spend Weekly Challenge (Sat-Fri):£30.50/£400 -

Hi all,
I've been hanging out on the May thread forgetting all about June despite being one week into my June GC budget.
Yesterday I did a big shop of meat, baking goods, cooking oils and other storecupboard items which is more than a months worth of a budget. I got a new freezer as a present so "have" to fill lit
Not sure how I am going to organise the spend as it was nearly all of June's budget but is meant to cover meat requirements for months. Hm... will think about it and update the signature when decided.
I've decided to make all our bread myself and therefore spent the morning today making four breads of two different kinds. Hoping to find a couple of favourite recepies which we can use as staple bread, with a few interesting varieties. Anyway, pleased with resolve being strong enough to have started filling the freezer with own bread.
My budget for June:
EyesWideOpen £300 for JuneFinally had my eyes opened and I am ready to tackle my debts!
