Hi Bikingbint- what does your MIL say she wants to eat? Do you give her the same size meals as you and your DH? Maybe she's 'put off' by the size of the meal? Hope it gets better for you :)

I dont ask mother what she wants as the answer is always the same 'something light' so tempted to give her a plate of lightbulbs the other popular response is 'just a sandwich' (she wouldn't eat cooked food if you let her get away with it). I decide what she is having and yes she has much smaller portions than me or DH.

    Hi all,

Just to add to the DR debate. I've never been much of a meat snob (although I draw the line at value sausages and mince) but since getting my first DR order two months ago I can honestly say I've never tasted meat as good. I did my order through quidco and got 7% cashback plus I had a voucher code for free p&p plus 20% discount. I think for 20 meals (for the 5 of us) it cost me £60. Since then I've place another smaller order, again through quidco, with 7% cashback and free p&p.

We had Delia$ potroast recipe last night using a piece of rolled brisket from DR. Lovely and tender, no shrinkage at all. Unlike the piece from MrT I did a month or so ago that was as tough as old boots :rotfl: I know it's a cost thing with some of you, and believe me I ummed and aaahd a lot before ordering for the first time. However, I would much rather have better quality meat and less of it.

Dinner tonight will be hm cheese and tomato puffs, with mini roasties and sugar snap peas.

Hugs to those who need or want one.

    Hi All

Just working out what I will spend next month's budget on. I have a generic menu plan that I like to batch cook for but update it as and when I need to. Normally on pay day I go out and do the "big shop" which I am starting to question why I do this. I stock up weekly and keep a running note in my filofax of what's running low/out as I use it. I meal plan and buy this weekly - stock up on porridge when we run low, same for other things, and haven't missed things I would have bought in the big shop! Struggling to remember what I did used to buy!

So for the coming month I am deciding what meat I will need as I do buy that in bulk still, easier for hubby who gets it for me from work.

How much do the meat eaters out there spend on meat a month pls? We are family of 4 (2 young kids who don't eat much meat except in packed lunches).

    Thanks guys :)
I used to do a big shop at pay day, but then spent as much again each week :o so I decided to do the shopping once a week, and work out just exactly what I need. I have a list on the kitchen bench of the meals for the week, and work out what I have in the cupboard and what I need to buy. I buy meat (for 4 adults) when it's on offer at M&S. e.g. 3 packs of mince for £10 (I can't eat cheap mince, it's the thought of it I suppose)
and I bulk it out with onions, carrots, lentils etc. Some of the folks on here use oats, but I've never tried it yet. I know a good butcher in a garden centre, and I will buy sausages, brisket etc from him, but I'm a bit fussy with meat, so I'm not sure if this helps you at all :) We don't eat chicken much these days because DD has a bad reaction to it.
My week works like this - I use a 'pack' of meat on a Sunday, then leftovers on a Monday, and maybe sausages on Wed or Thurs, and the other days are veggie meals or fish.

Cleggie - thinking of you. Just take every day as it comes and do the best you can.

Well, am pleased to announce another NSD today, taking my total to 9 for June! I am over the moon with it :) I'm starting to think I can handle this GC :) This will be the first time I've ever stuck to it and made it to the end of the month. Couldn't have done it without you guys. I wish I'd been more determined earlier.

    Have a lovely evening, everyone.

    K xx

I'm now at £223.41 for this month. So I'm gonna aim for £200 for July, I think that's reasonable.
Will be doing meal plans for July, definitely think this will help! Will officially declare on Sunday as that is when June ends for me.
  • When does the July thread open please? Am ready to declare my planned budget :rotfl:(Keen to get started!)
