  • Thanks Gally. I still stalk you over there in sunnier climes. Just don't get to posting as much as I'd like.

Will you let me know when the ospreys are back please?

Well done on the food budget MM..we have bust ours :( by £64. But oh well did include quite a lot of cleaning products and fresh stuff so no need to buy anything else until week after next.

  • When we were doing the house extension, I had a budget of £60 per week for the 4 of us. Was that tedious? You betcha! These days we've got £100 per week so it's a lot easier.

I guess the thing about budgets is that if you didn't have one in the first place, you'd spend waayyyyy more than what you've budgeted. Even if you do bust it a tad every now and then :D.

  • Quick update for March - it feels like its been a bit spendy but all from planned savings so under control really but does feel odd spending it still! :rotfl:

We're off on holiberries for a week on Good Friday. Nowhere exotic but will be quality family time. Cottage paid for and spending money in hand.

Whilst we're away we have the decorator booked in to do hall, stairs, landing, bathroom and cloakroom. I can do a fairly decent job of painting but my time is very limited and these areas are so full of woodwork that it's best to pay someone to do it. :T

Have managed to reduce Girl MM's riding costs I think. At the moment we pay £32 for a 1 hour lesson per week :eek::eek: I know - makes me wince when I say it! She's progressed so well bless her that the time has come for the next step up and I think I've found her a super share pony at £20 per week which give us unlimited access two days a week. Much more pony for our money! :rotfl: Had a test ride on the pony during the week which went very well. Have second and final test ride today and we should be good to go!

I've wanted a pony of my own for 35 years but have never had the means. This is as exciting for me as it is for her! I know it isn't our pony but for two sevenths of each week I can pretend and that's good enough for me :D

Horses and money saving all in one go - does it get any better??!!

Very exciting :) sounds like a win win to me. Hope second ride goes as well as the first. Will she need to share the mucking out too? ;) Vet bills?

Enjoy the holibobs. We are doing the same....cottage for a week. Can't wait

  • Second ride went very well and we're all good to go! No sharing of yard duties at all and no other financial commitment. The owner wants a fit pony for competing but hasn't the time to exercise him as often as he needs for that. He's in a livery yard so all the yard duties taken care of. Can't quite believe it to be honest. I'm waiting for the catch but there doesn't seem to be one (touches wood very swiftly!).

Enjoy your holibobs too Brizz. Actually, we're down your neck of the woods for our week away. Planning on a trip to SS Great Britain among other things.

Good stuff - that sounds like an amazing horse share.

Hope you enjoy it. The Museum of Bristol is good too -same side of the river - and its free. If the weather is mild maybe have a bacon butty at the Brunel Buttery..not bad value and v close to the ship.
