I understand your frustration but why do you feel you should get compensation? You could have planned ahead and got the money the day before, or like others said used a supermarket and got cash back.

Yeah hindsight is a great thing and we should of planned ahead, but yesterday we were very busy. We had to visit mr divadees uncle in hospital for a few hours and by the time we got home we were very tired.

if you could of found a supermarket open on Easter Sunday at 8am in Bournemouth you are a better person than me. We tried numerous garages to see if they did cashback none of them did. Also customer services later told me, that they didnt know if even that transaction would of gone through as it still needed to link to Barclays computer.

Barclays computers went down because of the clocks going back, they should of been prepared for this, afterall it does happen every year, so shouldnt come as a great shock to them.

I feel we are entitled to compensation, as barclays should of prepared for the clocks going forward ages ago.

i take it the card is also a debit/chq guarantee card, so why could you not have used it to pay for entry/stuff at the park, rather than trying to withdraw the cash - would have meant the day wasnt ruined

we could of paid for the entrance to the park with the card, but barclays would not guarantee that the card would be authorised as their computers were down. this affects all transactions, not only cash points.

I was not prepared to drive 1 1/2 hours to not have the card authorised would you of?

    OH MY GOODNESS

I said in one of my earlier posts (#2) that i had called the daily mail about this story, have just seen the paper review on sky news and it made the front page. Massive headline, and its all done to little old me. :j

stick that where the sun dont shine barclays
  • ive worked days where atm networks/visa networks go down and its a nightmare. very stressful. the customer service person who told you it was because of clocks going forward i think panicked under the pressure.

doesnt sound very feasible to me ??

btw not excusing them, just commenting.

in terms of compo i think youll do well to get more than about £10/ £20 out of them as a goodwill gesture, if you are a valued customer.

the way they will probably view it is did you lose out financially - you mention you hadnt yet paid for the tickets which of course would have been entirely different.

so it didnt actually cost you anything, except stress. how do you price stress?

just my thoughts, sorry your day was ruined. good luck with it though

make sure they compensate you first ....

allude to the fact that, say £20 will see you retain the account ........... then take the £20 and close the account then :T :rotfl:

Good luck with this Divadee! Glad to see you have influence over our national papers, you should try it more often!! Barclays are useless for not letting customers know what's going on, if it was unforeseen they should have admitted it. Hope you get to wherever theme park someday, anyway it wasn't so warm today and you've saved loads of cash!

I am inclined to agree with Marky Mark D, it is possible that there are some major software upgrades going on... you know, to fix the problems we have all been complaining about. I do however agree that some sort of contingency should have been in place.

As far as the comments about business ... a business exists for one reason and one reason only ... to make a profit ... I have never heard of anybody opening up a business to deliberately lose loads of money. Good service and customer care is only a means to an end ... just ask all the shareholders (including anybody with a pension scheme ... no profit = no return). If you believe otherwise I can understand why your management course was ill-fated :D:D

Compensation? Its a tough one. The problem is that while you have been genuinely inconvenienced every liar and cheat will be jumping on the compensation band wagon as soon as they hear about this. How do you sort out genuine claims like yours from those that are out to dishonestly make a quick buck? Next time I am guessing you will make sure you have a few shekels in the house before the holiday weekend :D:D

    Hi Divadee

About to go out and buy the Daily Mail just cos you're now famous-lol.

Sorry to hear your Easter was spoiled.Hope you can manage to re-arrange your plans.

Have been trying to think what i would have done in the same circs. Do you have a credit card instead you could have used? Or paid the entrance fee via cheque and took enough food and drink with you so you didn't need to go in the cafes?
