It might have been boring to you but it got a thankyou

The amount of time I've worked in retail doesn't have an effect on my point of view (more underlining, perhaps you've been teaching too long!). I currently also run my online business and as soon as it reaches £3000/month will become a full time venture which will probably be around july time but my opinion on these things will still be the same. It's basically the ability to realise theres often 2 sides to every story.

"we all" "often less" bit of a generalisation isn't it? Surely if you feel that way then go somewhere else or use the self service tills!

So I take it you were there to know this is 100% true? The op seems to have upset 3 seperate people. You don't seem to want to acknowledge that possibility. So tell me, how do you know that the op's are always 100% correct? Is it a crime to have an open mind then? So having an open mind is from 'been in retail just a bit too long' you sure? Or could I just be open minded naturally?

By the way the day in question which I mentioned about my collegue I was on day off. there was nothing in my post that suggested I was on duty!

    Yawn

Like I've said. Tesco customer service is crap. There are many posts on these boards to back that up.

Tesco need to look at their staff training very carefully. But they won't because they are so big they no longer feel they need to care. They will sort it out only when it hurts their pockets - which may be never and is why those people who care about good service will always take their business elsewhere.

    Some of us have standards!

At the end of the day, no-one knows what happened in the store. The OP may have been at fault with what they said or their approach, or vice versa.

I work in the public sector and I for one have come across some of the most obnoxious members of the public imaginable. However, there are some nice ones out there!

Life would be boring though if we didn't complain.

Things that make you go hmmm....

A normal rational person knows when they have handled a situation badly and takes it on the chin.

The OP here appears to be a reasonable chap (look how many thanked posts he has!) and remember he had his girlfriend with him so there was a witness.

People post on here when they think they have been treated shamefully and in 99% of cases they have been. The odd exceptions are easy to spot. Someone points out a flaw in their argument and they slink off and don't reply to any of the questions or statements.

My money's on the OP here. I hope this thread keeps going because I'd like to know the eventual outcome.

    Keep it up Nite!

Service has deteriorated in most major retailers and service organisations over the years. No doubt there are many reasons for this, including low pay, poor management, poor moral and OTT training programmes, but I think the main reason for the change is that we all think we deserve better and refuse to be "told off". Customers get frustrated and angry at the impotence of staff to handle complaints. They are not given any power to resolve situations just told to enforce company/store/council policy. No discretion allowed. Customers feel what is the point of complaining if no one can do anything unless you speak to the top person. Staff on the other hand are no doubt fed up of repeating the same thing to customers and just want them to go away no matter what.

I speak as a LA worker who has seen some colleagues in action, and as a tax payer I'm apalled not only at their attitude because they have become hardened to complaints but their general lack of professional pride.

I have noticed over the years that I have been visiting the local hairdressing college for my hair colour that the students are not as professional as students of 5 years ago and their tutors are more lax with them. i.e. they congregate at the doorway smoking and return to do clients hair stinking of stale smoke, the chew gum, they take calls on their mobiles, their clothes are scruffy, their hair a mess, they forget to take your coat, they spend more time chatting to co students and their language is poor.

  • You pay peanuts you get monkeys.........

Many years ago people received a decent wage.

Tesco, Currys, Comet, Sainsburys, Call centres, etc etc.

Drive down the costs and raise the profits. Streamline the process, reduced overheads etc.

They dont get paid enough to kiss every customers A**E.

Face it, you go to a cheapo outlet and you get a cheapo service. I remember getting a cheapo flight with easyjet once, the lady in the seat infront called a hostess over and asked for a blanket. The hostess replied "Im sorry madam, but we dont carry blankets on a short haul flight". The lady in the infront seat said - said -said "British Airways do. They are much better"

I thought, and with hindsight should of said "Well go and bloody well get a BA flight and stop annoying the staff and making other CUSTOMERS hear your rubbish"

    Customers....honestly!

Thats the thing. How much intelligants does it take to realise your not going to get the same thing from Easyjet that you would with British Airways. You'd think not much, but how many people come out with that sort of thing.

  • I have recently had a bad experience with Tesco's. I spend alot there as it is my nearest supermarket, I live rural.
Just before Christmas I opened a bag of sugar, the sugar was 3 weeks old...and for the record sugar does not carry a sell by or use by date....yep you learn something everyday lol.
Upon opening this sugar I found it was crawling with maggots and beetles, and I mean crawling there were hundreds in there!!!! I popped this into a Tesco bag and rushed back to my store. When the girl at the counter looked inside she screamed, it was that bad. I was told that it would have to be sent away to be tested. They gave me a replacment bag of sugar.
I came home cleared out my entire cupboards. The problem was it was before Christmas and my cupboards were full. I rang a pest control who came out and identifed the beetle and maggot and said I had to throw away everything!!! He gave me some spray , as this particular beetle will crawl into the smallest hole and can multiply by the thousands...yuk.
Tesco told me I would hear with 3 days from the supplier..whitworths sugar....of which didn't happen. In the meantime I have a cupboard Ican't use and little food. I rang Tesco head office asking for help and maybe a quicker responce as I was struggling to replace the food as money was short.
To cut along story, Tesco NEVER RETURNED ANY CALLS. Whitworths were very good, it seemed they have never had a complaint from that tye of beetle and said that the source must have come from the source of storage at Tesco. of course Tesco denied this, and it was like being past from pillar to post!!! Whitworths sent me £25, Tesco's had to be threatened by legal action and coughed up £20..........the food I had to throw away cost far more than both these put together, so even the end result I was not happy at all.
I still can't use that cupboard and have had to re arrange my kitchen.
With all the millions Tesco's get in profits, I must say I thought I would be treated far better than this. In my view my contract was with Tesco not Whitworths.
Also some of my family work at Tesco and I worked there myself a few years ago. They store all dryed food together, and cross contamination would and is possible.
