income support advice

I am needing some information with ref to income support please.
My IB ends on May 25th and we claim DLA and my wife gets Carers allowance so we though it may be better to claim income support but what income do they take into account?
The income we get is
DLA £72.40 a week
Child Benefit £20.30 a week
Child tax credit £60.96
Carers allowance £58.45
so how much income support would we get with the above income and we also have 1 child who is 11.

It's only CA they take into account, but you then get a carers premium. Basically what they give you in CA they deduct from IS.rich_shot2003 wrote: »I am needing some information with ref to income support please.

Could we put the IS claim in now even if IB wont end till 25th may but i know they wont pay IS till that date.0 -
If you feed your figures into the benefits calculator, you can see what your entitlement would be.0

On my award, child benefit is also counted as income so is deducted also (not CTC - just the child benefit part of £20.30 pw)
On my award I have child benefit, CA, and my SDA deducted as "income you have told us about." What is left for us is a couple of premiums, we get very little in actual IS. However, it may work differently nowadays.
You should get the carers premium too which is about £30 and possibly another for long term sick but no guarantees on that one.
DLA remains as is and is not deductible off any benefit as its tax free too.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -

We sent off the form about 12 days ago and still not heard back so hope it wont be too long till we hear something back.0 -
Just been looking and your child benefit shouldn't be deducted as you are on CTC. It can take a while to sort out the claim. I would be interested if they allow the disability premium or not, as you are claiming IS on the grounds of carer.
This can be done instead of ESA, but there seems to be confusion on whether they allow premiums. Hope you hear soon

Thats what we are doing instead of ESA as i didnt pass the medical and can not cope with the appeal so was told by DWP that my wife could claim IS and it looks like we will be better off doing that way.
Just one thing could they say no to IS to force me onto JSA cause i didnt get enough points on medical even if i am on DLA?0 -
Not really no, because the claim is in your wife's name and she is claiming on the grounds of being a carer, so ensure the claim remains in her name.
Where it may get complicated is if you loose the MRC which means she looses her claim to IS as a carer. If that happens you will need to either claim ESA or JSA and appeal to reinstate your MRC allowance if you still fit the criteria.
Not sure how CA and PIP are going to work though, but no point worrying yet.“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0 -
You could also claim housing benefit if you rent, and council tax benefit. If you have a mortgage, you may get some help with interest payments after a qualifying period.
If you are successsful in your claim for IS, your child will get free school meals, and possibly paid transport to school (depending on distance) and a uniform grant (some local authorities have this, but not all. Where I live, it is paid in July and is £29.50 for primary age and £44.50 for secondary age).0 -
If someone who claims CA, claims IS, do they get their CA taken off of them (but still have the underlying entitlement) and then the carers premium added to IS? Or would they continue to have the CA in payment?2019 Wins
