I finally heard back from The Sun on Thursday who said they were unable to offer me anything in compensation. I'm really not happy about this so I've written to the Advertising Standards Authority.
I'll let you know what happens next.

Oh, now that is not acceptable:mad:

You sound a really patient and sweet person but I really think you should go for the jugular on this - do the Sun love bad publicity or something:eek:

I'm sorry to hear of your problems.

As I expect you know, in broad terms the Sun are supposed to treat you equally with an able bodied person and should make reasonable adjustments. You might want to ask here for advice too about how to tackle them, especially as its a one off, not likely to be repeated celebration:

    Equality and Human Rights Commission

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is a national body, which may be able to give you advice about disability discrimination. It may also be able to help you take further action, where this is necessary. Their information is available in various community languages, in sign language and in easy-to-read language. Their contact details are:

The Sun might argue public transport isn't covered by DDA but this is hardly public transport. More general info here.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I've just posted on The Sun's Facebook page and The Sun's Page Three Facebook page.
    Here is what I posted
"A few weeks ago The Sun ran a competition for places on a boat they had hired to take part in The Jubilee Pageant. To enter the competition
people need to say why they deserved to win. I entered by saying that I had caught polio on the day The Queen got crowned and won a place for me and a friend.
I was really happy until when I contacted Lorna Carmichael, who was running the competition for The Sun, said that the boat was unsuitable
for wheelchair users. This was not stated in the Terms and Conditions of the competition. She did allow anther of my friends to go the the boat, and she also said that she would arrange something else for me. After calling her many times to find out what this would be, finally on Thursday (31st of May) she said that The Sun was going to give me NOTHING. After the disappointment of not being able to go on the boat this felt like a real kick in the teeth.
My friends have rung me from the boat and seem to have had a wonderful time.
Is The Sun really going to let me down like this ?"

I think my posting on The Sun's page will get lost in all the comments but the one re Page 3 should stand out :rotfl:
All is not lost as today I entered a cake in my local street party's competition and won a bottle of Cava.

Smitten1, as you said you contracted Polio on the day of the coronation, surely the Sun would know that Polio can result often in some form of paralysis or disability, whether temporary or permanent. I am surprised they did not do a quick google of the virus to work that you may not need disabled access before hand?

Stupid people make me angry and this makes me SO CROSS. xxx
