I have CPP cover. I've had it for about 5 years now. 3 years ago when I changed address they told me they'd informed all my card providers. This appeared to be true for some of my cards but not with the Royal Bank of Scotland. RBS told me they don't take insructions from anyone other than the card holder. When I asked RBS whether this is the case even if my card was stolen they said yes, they would only cancel only if I told them to, not when CPP or anyone else does.

Apparently RBS are not the only ones who insist on this. Check with your card providers.

have been with them for about 5 years and thinking will they be any use when I need them.

In their terms and conditions it states,
We will not pay more than £5,000 of any claim relating to
the period before you reported the card loss.
    B3: Personal belongings
We will pay up to £200 for the cost of replacing personal
belongings which are lost or stolen at the same time as the
card while you are away from your home.
    • We will not pay anything unless:
    (a) you reported the loss to the local police immediately; and
    (b) you have written evidence from the police of making a
report (if this evidence is not available, we must be
satisfied that you reported the matter).
    • We will not pay more than one claim per policyholder
under this section in each year.
    • We will not pay the first £25 of each claim.
    • You must provide original documentary evidence for the
replacement items (for example, replacement receipts).
Terms and conditions are here and have some many exclusions will they every pay out.

  • I've been with sentinel for five years or so, and I definitely think it is worth it for peace of mind.
I have just received a renewal form, however, for £30 for the 'gold' version with no obvious method of not 'upgrading'. Checking around I find they offer cover for £20, or £50 for 3 years. Seems I am going to have to ring them up to sort this out, which is a pain, but I expect I will do it.

    Insurance Question:

What is the worse thing that can happen to me with regards to my plastic cards?

    Answer:

Have my cards nicked and used with my PIN in that period of time between the card(s) being stolen and me noticing and reporting the loss.

Present thinking: Oh that's ok I'm covered by CCP. Besides according to the Banking Code I'll only be liable for the first £50 or the WHOLE loss if the card issuers can prove me being careless with my PIN.

Here's what is happening to 1 forum contributer and they are not the first.

    Card Fraud.

Question to ask CCP: If my cardholder disputes a transaction where my PIN has been used, am I covered for the loss?

  • I used to have CPP.

Came in useful when I lost my keys and wallet on separate occasions. Both times they were returned with no items stolen as both items had the CPP keyfobs/stickers on them.

More useful than insuring the minimum payments in case you fall ill etc in my opinion...
  • It turns out that Sentinel are automatically 'upgrading' all accounts like mine to this new and improved £30 Gold level. Of course there are improved benefits, higher cover and something called CIFAS protection that I have never heard about. I've no idea if it is worth it or not, I guess I am going to have to find out.

I asked if I could stay on the old £20 cover, but apparantly not. I would have to cancel my cover and take out new cover. What a faff.

Turns out I have been a customer for 17 years!
  • I've got CPP and had it for years. Thought it was a brilliant idea and have no plans to cancel it. Peace of mind knowing all the rogues out there. Simply ring up if you cancel one card and add another. Passport numbers are also stored with them and NI numbers. It's a must for the future and you can guarantee that if you cancel it somebody will nick your cards!

No need to ring up now, you can DIY online.

My renewal is coming up and I thought it was getting more expensive are there any other options and do Quidco or anyone do cash back for renewal.

Do you mean CPP? I can't find anything on the Sentinel site about applying on line. The CPP sign up seems simple enough, but Sentinel already have my details, so I'll stay with them unless they make it too difficult.
    Thanks
