Has anybody else had a company fit loft insulation and promise an EPC Certificate once the job is done? I have and when I have question the company were my certificate is I was told twice that I would receive it soon. When I telephoned them today I am now told they have never offered an EPC and apologise that I was told this. It seems though when I google this many people have been told they too would receive an EPC (which I was shown by the man carrying out the survey on my property!) Has anybody else had the same problem? ...not sure if I can mention the name of the company on here?
Bit Miffed! has we are thinking of moving and was waiting for the Free EPC:mad::(

I had my loft insulated 2 years ago by the company who were replacing my roof.I had it done to the highest spec at the time and it's made a huge difference.
Now every few months I get a different cold caller from Mark Group trying to drum up trade for them.I tell them I don't need it and they spout 'regulations have changed' ,'you probably need more insulation' etc etc
When I politely tell them I definitely don't want or more crucially NEED it they still persist. Each of the last 6 times I've told them that their previous cold caller was told the same. Some of them carry professional looking clipboards but one had a scrappy bit of A4 paper and I insisted he wrote my address and 'not needed' but he still carried on with his stupid spiel. In the end I told him to get off my property.
Today's caller was told in no uncertain terms that any further visits would be reported to Trading Standards and I'm going to contact Mark Group to tell them to cease and desist sending annoying cold callers.
Having watched the actions of both callers in my street today they work from a list and will come back to non responders up to 4 times during the day.Given I'd previously told 5 others I wasn't interested 'd say - to be charitable - they have a communication problem. But after my experiences I just think they want to keep hassling people until they take up the offer.
I'm very happy for everyone who got their insulation done well etc but persistent cold calling is not on in my book.:mad:0 -
Do remember that they people knocking the door are contractors paid to deliver leads, not directly employed by Mark Group, so have to achieve targets set by their bosses.
The cold callers at my door very specifically say 'I'm from the Mark Group' so if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck I treat it like a duck !0 -
Hi all,
Don't bother with The Mark Group. I was tempted by the offer but wish I hadn't bothered. I'm self employed and turned down a well paid days work and sat at home waiting for them all day. They never showed up. I've just called to find out what's going on and it turns out they "cancelled the job and have no idea why I wasn't told" ... useless. I've told them to stick it!0 -
. . . but we have ended up with our lofts insulated to current standards (apparently) and our cavity walls full of little grey beads.
It's taken months and months and a lot of visits. And all for free (free to us anyway).
They did have to come back and remove the heaps of grey beads that had leaked into the smaller loft above the kitchen so I do wonder if there are actually any beads in the walls at the back of the house:question:!
would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

I currently represent the Mark Group as a third party.
i have no issue stating that the Mark Group are a great company. They have been around for 40 years now and due to the new ECO (Energy Company Obligation) funding they no longer have to charge for most of their customers. The funding is covered by your energy company.
a legitimate survey should consist of the following:
LOFT
a photo of every direction in the loft, a photo of the insulation depth, a photo of the attic roof pitch and a picture of the loft hatch.
Once photos are done an "Estimate Form" along with some other paperwork should be completed. A pink copy of the estimate form should be left with the customer as evidence that no cost is involved.
CAVITY
a Borescope (special camera) check should be done on every elevation of the house and in some cases (HTT Cavities) several test holes for each elevation may be needed. The estimate form should then be filled in with plans of each elevation completed in the boxes to the left of the estimate form.
once all of this is completed a phone call should be placed there and then for a validator to come and complete the second stage of the insulation process.
if you are happy with the survey you may like to know HOW this is free for you.
3 types of funding are available.
CSCO - postcode generated for "LSOA" (lower super output areas)
AW - for people who are in receipt of specific benefits
HTT - for properties that cannot be insulated through regular insulation methods. (available to any property that is considered "Hard To Treat)
any legitimate surveyor can be confirmed by calling the Mark Group number which is on the back of their "FR ID" badge and quoting the FR ID number (also on the back)
i hope this helps anyone that is skeptical about the strangers that turn up at your doors0 -
I still don't know if our cavities are really full up to the top with the grey beads, if loads of them leaked out into the loft.
How would I find out?

I don't want to name and shame, so I won't name, but I have spent two mornings at my daughter's house waiting for the guys to come & do her cavity wall insulation. On both occasions they did not turn up.
Fortunately they were days I had off work anyway and I had things to get on with, but I am not happy. They are going to ring again with another appointment, apparently.

One of these guys came round my flat the other night. I have been talking with my downstairs neighbour about getting our cavity walls done, and I mentioned to her about the green deal and was in the process of researching it. I came back from work last night and there was a knock at my door from a guy from the Mark Group saying that he had just done a survey on the cavities and I just needed to sign a couple of forms and he would arrange a time to come and have the work done.
I assumed that my neighbour had called them round seeing as we had been talking about sorting the cavity out a few days earlier, and when he said it was free i signed the papers. I then found out from my neighbour that she hadnt called them, they had turned up and she had gone ahead with it. Im a very sceptical person and had he kocked on my door i wouldnt have gone ahead with it, as i was planning on getting the works done by the green deal. Having read this thread im going to call them back and cancel the works as i dont trust that anything can be 100% free and I would rather go with the green deal than some cold caller.0
