o2 nightmare - advice on switching

Hi,
Hoping for a bit of advice here to help solve a broadband problem.
We're currently on o2 for both phone and broadband and both myself and the OH work from home much of the time.
Since Sunday evening we've been suffering massive packet loss to some destinations and the connection dropping repeatedly on one computer, while the other is much slower.
The packet loss means we cannot access our work email or work server and using the internet in general is unusable. o2 have flipped and flopped over whether there was a problem, been generally useless - even suggesting a reinstall of Microsoft Outlook! - and now referred the matter to a special team to deal with it. The ETA on getting it fixed is four days!
I've asked what the termination fee is to cancel the phone and broadband, and it's only 20 quid. So we want to jump ship.
Been looking at BT Fibre Optic and Sky Fibre Optic. Any thoughts as to which is the most reliable? And cost effective? We already have Sky TV and just want a reliable, solid connection with good customer support. Speed of course is also important.
One thing to note is we'd leave o2 for the phone too. Is it possible to have a seamless switch over? We don't want to be left without internet for any period if possible.
Sorry for the ramble, but any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks,

The thing is can you get Sky FTTC?
Sky operates on its own network to the exchange rather than BT's.
Less than 15% can get Sky FTTC i cant and been on FTTC 13 months+
There are better operators offering service than BT. Seems the only way to get a simple task sorted is to go on BTforums and ask a question, beg and wait three days then might get some where. Phone forget it, its India reading from a script.
Sounds like you are like me, i cant afford to be be without connection but must admit i am currently migrating over to BT FTTC 'Infinity' from a decent ISP. You will have to weigh it all up, when connection goes down or theres a problem, who do you turn to? BT do have the free wifi hotspots so worst case could go out and use one of them to ask a question on btforums. Other than think 3+ weeks to sort a simple problem such as stuck profile. Decent ISP get sorted with Openreach in a few hours and thats the difference.
Still in two minds whether to pull out even though i do have a special contact number given as last resort to catch me by cancellations dept.
See other thread for decent ISP

If you want to pay that type of money, go for virgin it will be more reliable and fasterDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

I think the OP would want customer service.0
