Well, the inveitable happened today

Hi All.

Just wanted to get this down on 'paper' of how I have been today.

After 151/2 years, my baby Rustyboy had to be put to sleep.

It was his 16th Birthday. We got him on the 8th Jan 1997 afrom the RSPCA and he was said to be 8 months old.

He was 1/2 alsation, 1/2 retriever and the softest dog I have ever met in my life. He slept in bed with me for 10 years ! ( used to hofg the quilt ! lol.

Over the past week he had been having accidents, from being a chubby baby, he went to skin and bones, his back legs were failing and he had cushings disease. The last 4 days were the worst, he was continually crying and barking for food, then ate it , threw up and ate it again. he was ravenous. There was nothing we could do to save him, he had tumours in his spleen liver and a heart murmur.
But it was so hard. I keep hearing him in the house and my bedroom seems so empty, the whole house does. It was horrible eating a bar of cocolate before and not having him winge for it.

And the Chicken ! lol Used to go through 4 chickens a week, was only way we could get him to take his meds.

I have cleared everything out, all his food, meds, beds and baskets are going to an animal shelter near me, cant get rid of his aladin blanket ( lol) bought the first day we got him and he has slept on it most of his life. It is by my bed and I can smell him on it. Hopefully the house will feel better when we get him back next week in his casket with his photo on it.

Goodnight Russie boy, sleep well, no more pain

So sorry to hear that....but think how many happy years your boy had with you?
    And share his photo please?

AS for giving away his things to a shelter.. I know it is early days but perhaps...

When humans die, they make a will
To leave their homes and all they have
    To those they love.
I, too, would make a will if I could write.

To some poor wistful lonely stray
    I leave my happy home,
My dish, my cosy bed, my cushioned chair, my toy,
The well loved lap, the gently stroking hand,
    The loving voice,
The place I made in someone’s heart,
The love, that at the last could help me to
    A peaceful painless end
    Held in loving arms.

If I should die Oh do not say,
"No more a pet I’ll have
To grieve me by it’s loss"
Seek out some lonely, unloved dog
And give my place to him.
This is my legacy I leave behind
‘Tis all I have to give.

RIP Russie, run free on the RB

Hi I'm really sorry for your loss and I understand how you feel.I have Ben he's my best friend,he's been with me through all the good and bad times over almost 16years now, he helped me through my divorce, my second husbands cancer and my sons disabilities and suicide attempts! Without my faithfully friend I wouldn't be the person I am. Life without him is unthinkable but he too has a heart murmur he's had pancreatitis and a big op on his back but he's always fought back.I know he's getting tired he sleeps alot more but he still enjoys mooching in the garden and cuddling up with me.
He's been a huge part of all our lives and I know it's a good age but letting go doesn't feel an option but I know the time is growing ever closer I just pray he'll fall asleep at home.
We are the lucky ones to have shared our lives with such special friends, think about those special times and smile and I'm sure he's still with you and always will hold a special place in your heart.

I am so sorry for your loss, having gone through it last time my heart goes out to you. Just remember the good times, try not to think of your baby as he has been the last few days but how he was down at the beach or in the woods having fun.

I still cry though I lost my dog last July, but at least we know we gave them a good life and we are richer for having had them in our lives.

We went thru this just a couple of weeks ago, I know how you feel.

Lots of hugs from me, pamper yourself in these next few days, you are emotionally bruised right now :(

Just think of all the fun you have had together over the last 15 years.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)
