OS Daily Tues 8 May 2012

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tues 8th May 2012. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the
Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Raining again, started late last night as it was pouring when I went to bed at midnight, doesn't look like it's stopped since! DH up and off to work early but not stupid early, so he brought me a cuppa in bed before he left.

All back to work and school today, work I'm sure will be manic.

Had a great weekend, venue for the rally was in the grounds of an old stately home which is now a field study centre, has around 85 acres of woods, fields, two lakes etc, so great venue, kids were building dens in the woods, pond dipping, they cooked marshmallows over campfire - was great to see so many children enjoying the outdoors. Weather was changeable but better than expected so we just dodged the showers, our good friends were there too so we obviously shared a few bottles of the alcoholic kind!!

DH is going back to the dentist today after work, so he will be a bit late home, dinner will be pork steaks, new pots, veg and gravy.

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

Morning nmlc and all who cross and follow

Sound like you had a great weekend!

Awake stupid early today. OH brought me a cuppa as soon as my eyelids fluttered at 5.30 as he was awake and thinking about work.

Feels like Monday.......and raining again! Just went to the kitchen and foraged for cereal which I ate in bed nomm. Now thinking about more tea and then may go back to sleep zzzzz.

Tea will be vegetable stew with dumplings and hopefully will do tomorrow as well.

    Have a good day all.

nmcl sounds like a brilliant weekend, where was it?

Morning everyone. I'm back at uni today and missing home. There's really awful weather forecast tomorrow and thursday so I'm going to the shops this afternoon (with a purse full of coupons) and library so I don't have to brave the wind and rain. Not much else going on here today :( ((hugs)) everyone xx

Hello all, hope a stranger is welcome. I'd love to join in:) I'm all about old-style. My previous flatmates thought I was loony for preserving and all my other 'weird' old-style' type ways. However, I was the one who stayed within my means and even saved while they relied on their overdrafts!(You can tell who *I* thought was loony;)).

I've just finished measuring and pinning a door curtain for my drafty glass front door, it just needs to be hemmed and put up, which I'll do tomorrow at some point. I found a bedsheet sized piece of greeny-blue light-weight wool fabric for $3(about 1 pound 50p) in a CS to use for it, so that should keep the drafts out this winter. I still have enough to either cover one of my shabby dining chairs, or if I do some creative patching, to do another short curtain for the window above the kitchen sink.

Dinner was pear crumble, using some left-over pears with ginger that didn't fit into the jars when I bottled. Delicious.

    Morning all,

Raining here again, it rained all day yesterday too, most of April and May have been a washout so far.

My car failed its MOT yesterday, on one tiny thing, the horn would not work, the garage could not do it for me, as it involved an air-bag, so advised me to take to an auto electrician at around £50 + Vat an hour , bought it home and OH had a look and fixed it for me in around 10 mins :T:j, so I have to take the car back this afternoon for a re test, hopefully it will go straight through.

Lots to do this morning, need to post ebay parcels, do online shop, tidy and hoover through downstairs, prepare dinner, and go and see dad, luckily I have my willing helper (dd) here :D.

Dinner tonight will be roast chicken, spuds and veg, including some cauli broc cheese from sunday.

Someone was asking on here yesterday about cheap meals (sorry cant remember who) well cauli and broc cheese is one of ours, we just have it with some bread and butter.

Another one is cheesy bean pie :D baked beans in an oven dish, topped with mash, then some cheese, baked in the oven, sometimes we have sausages with it, but only when we are feeling flush :D

    Have good days all xx

Morning all,bad night. Got woken up by the rain, couldnt get back to sleep so after an hour or so came downstairs to make a cuppa and read another chapter ofmy now overdue (oops) library book. oH didnt wake me and i slept through to 8:30  but did 40 mins overtime yesterday so claw that back (no pay for overtime) right, that's the last YS hot x bun from the freezer eaten for brekkie. Bought them at the m&s edinburgh station the other w/e to eat on the train for supper along with tea from trolley. The train was sooooooooo full there was hardly room for the passengers let alone a trolley, so hotx buns stayed in my bag and went in the freezer when i got home. Have a good day everyone. I'm hoping for a repeat of yesterday ie lots of marking and supervision and NO meetings :T

Morning, and welcome to Hulda :hello:

Aaahhhh, the first whole Week Of No Hassle since january :D No carrying my mobile everywhere (it's now turned off and in a drawer), no official people to contact, no forms to fill in and no more listening to other people's drivel and lies. All bunny boilers should be shot on sight :D Actually my little fantasy is a screwdriver in the head, lol.

It hammered down last night and was really windy, I was expecting to wake up to damaged plants and broken bamboo canes (put up yesterday) but everything looks OK. It's calm and sunny now.

I'm feeling cheery and full of energy today. I've cleaned out the chickens, scrubbed the cooker, put the washing on and washed some potatoes, I'll make a big tub of potato salad in a bit.

My hip's much better but still has it's moments, lol. I'm going to concentrate on that for the next couple of weeks, I want a big improvement so I can get back to work. And ride my bike, I really miss that.

    Morning all,

DundeeDoll if its any consolation i've just rolled out of bed too. I am having far too many late nights.

All is well, man back to work and boy to school. I cant believe that in 10 days my youngest will be finished with school (apart from exams). The end of an era for me. No more parents evenings or christmas plays/carol services (ok maybe i'll miss them a bit).

Busy day ahead of me. Need to go and have another blood test to check my kidney function. All because of these new tablets :(. Seems to me if my blood pressure doesnt kill me, my kidneys might. :rotfl:

Then i might pop in B&Q on the way home. I think my Monday routine will be out of the window today (Yes i know its Tuesday).

Will need to do a bit of repair work on my sons clothes. He is wrecking them on his skateboard. I was going to throw his hoodie away its so badly ripped but if i do that he will wreck another hoodie.

Dont know whats for tea. Will sort the details of that later.

Hugs to those of you going through issues at the moment.
