I often leave my veggie chilli to cool overnight. Some to freeze, some to reheat and eat.

  • I wonder if you can help.

I made a vegetarian Tagine yesterday and left the remainder covered in the pan to cool before freezing it for a later date.

I totally forgot about it and it is still covered in the pan on the side.

It is made of sweet potatoes, potatoes, carrots, tomatoes and spices.

Would you say it was safe to freeze now?

I was thinking of reheating some of it for lunch today, and freezing the rest.

I am usually very hot on putting food away so haven't been in this predicament before!

I wouldn't have any problem in eating or freezing that.

Having said that I've got the constitution of a crocodile.

I often leave curries hanging around and overnight the flavour improves.

Me too! I never get sick, so as long as it looks and tastes fine, I still eat it. :D

    Yes!

If I make veggie Shepherd Spy we eat half on the day it's made, and the rest stays out on the top, covered over to protect from dust and flying things, til the next day, when we heat it through and have the 2nd half. Reason is the dish I make it in is too big to go in the fridge.:o We've been doing that for ages, and still here, even with my compromised immune system!:o In fact, we've got the 2nd half of one for dins tonight!:D

I do this all the time, in fact I do it on purpose but, if it's tasty please share the recipe.

Ive got a sensitive tummy and I would eat it without hesitating - unless its got dairy in it. in which case I would be trying a spoonful or so, wait about four hours and if no ill effects would then happily eat it.

Veggie stuff, yes absolutely. I do it often with veggie soups that I've left out to cool down and forgotten about on the side.

    Meat, fish - noooooo.
  • I used to make a big pan of chilli con carne (Made with mince!!) for a then b/f, we used to have a plateful for supper the night before, then the rest just got left in the pan with the lid on overnight, just sat on the top of the cold cooker, and he heated it up next morning and had it for breakfast! Not sure I would be that brave, but he was never ill from it!

I'm all for leaving food out to cool and forgetting about it (I have the memory of a goldfish). I think as long as the room dosnt get too hot i.e the middle of summer it will be fine!
