Tesco Dried red Kidney beans Dec 2009 (because I was fearful of using a pressure cooker!)

I've got Granose burger and sausage mix which I found in my store cupboard the other day. I'm going to use them.

The kidney beans will be fine, but will probably take longer to cook, as others have said. I always cook a whole bag and freeze them (I don't have a pressure cooker) then take out what I need. They last even longer that way :D

Jimmythewig actually the LDS say that freeze dried milk is ok for approx 20 - 30 years
Are you suggesting that the OP has had this in their cupboard for 22-32 years? ;)

I'm a bit funny with dairy at times. Wouldn't enjoy eating what I'm made with it if I was unsure of it.
But I certainly agree that in theory it would be fine.
  • Dried goods, as long as they're kept in suitable conditions (cool, dry and out of direct light) are unlikely to go "off". Past their "best before" date means that the manufacurer cannot guarantee optimum texture and flavour, not that they've become inedible.

I'd use everything in the OP's list, no problem
  • Thank-you all so much for your replies I am now working out a meal plan using up these ingredients. You have saved me a small fortune x x
  • Its only "fresh" things you really have to worry about (bread, eggs, milk etc)

Dont do what I did, buy some part bake rolls, pop em in the top cupboard and forget about em...till random cleaning 6 months later. Amazing shades of green ;-)

So I got 6 large chickens from sainsburys a few weeks ago for £2.50 each. It was a special offer and they were all well in date.

I came home and bunged them in the freezer - whole.

Yesturday , I defrosted one and made a chicken curry with it, and put the rest in the fridge.

Today I would like to reheat it again to make enchiladas.

    Is this safe ?
    Kindness costs nothing :)

    Hi mirry,

Yes it's absolutely safe. A lot of people are 'funny' about reheating chicken, but I and many other Old Stylers do it regularly without any problems. Just make sure it's piping hot

I'll add this to our food safety thread later.

I've been given some "ojaree" from a butcher which I have learnt is lamb stomach (tripe). After reading about tripe, it is the unprepared type. Do I make this safe to eat by cleaning it with salt/vinegar and then by boiling?

I've never had unprepared tripe before so the preparation part, actual time the boiling takes and whether I will actually eat it is a concern (i.e. health and expense). Thanks.
