They're definitely "safe." And it's true that the older they are, the longer they take to cook. But I've often cooked dried beans that are past expiration date and never once had a problem. It depends on just how long past expiration date, but I think we're talking years here, not months. If you bring them to boiling point the night before you use them and leave them to soak overnight, they will be tender and fine to eat.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Thanks for your help everyone. I wouldn't normally think twice, I'm just being extra cautious right now! It sounds like they'll be absolutely fine though. I think they taste ok, but as I don't normally eat dried soya beans it's hard to say for sure! They definitely don't taste bad though, just taking a while to soften like you said.
If I was at all unsure I would be very non MSE and chuck the lot, just wanted some reassurance really.

I have found a jar of mincemeat that has been in the back of my cupboard it has beeen open for about 8 months or so
my friend says its hould be ok due to the high sugar content as it has no mould on it and apart from the sugar crystallising slightly it does appear ok I am a little scared to use it ( its a jar of robinsons) and wondered what others on here thought
thanks so much0 -
You just make some short crust pastry, others will be here in a min or mtwo to tell you how.
Roll Pastry
Cut into rings
Put in greased bun pan
Add gracious dollop of mincemeat, dab of whisky.
Top with pastry
Bake
Take out and put on grill pan to cool.
Dust with icing sugar
Enjoy.

Oh, I'd eat it. Maybe not straight from the jar, I'd cook it, but I'd eat it.Val.0

It should be fine to eat.
You could make jam crumblies with it. The recipe is here on the OS Board. The original recipe is for cooking in the microwave, but I bake them at 180C for 25 minutes."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'

It will be fine. I assume it was kept in an airtight jar? Don't get worried about things like 'use by' dates. I've even known a Christmas cake that had been forgotten, used the following Christmas and it was fine.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
