Massive help needed car accident 4 years ago....Dont know what to do!!!!

Hiya,
New here so not sure this is even the right forum!
Basically November 07 I was pulling out of my parking spot and my car was a foot on to the road when a car I had seen at the top of the road in my mirror came whizzing down the road at approx 40 mph (in a 25 mph home zone) and smashed into my wing.
This was seen by 2 witnesses, she also admitted she shouldnt be on the road as she had just had an accident on the M1 - We swapped details and a week later I filled in a form my insurers sent me detailing what had happened, havnt heard anything since.
Moved out with my partner a year later but my parents still live at the address I had the accident, I have since changed insurers and have heard nothing about the accident at all untill I visited my parents house today....
I have 3 Letters:
One from a solicitor informing me I am being sued for the accident I had (named person wasnt even the driver at the time) that I am to pay full damage of 1,000 and th ecar was a write-off?? (wasnt at all my car was more damaged than her slight bump in the bumper) with a CCJ claim form attached....
One saying that the judgement has been passed against me and I am liable to pay 1,000 for her car plus 536.70 in court fees
One from another solicitor saying I have 14 days to pay CCJ before bailiffs attend my address.
Have got on to insurance who are useless but natwest have confirmed I was paying BDML Connect car insurance who I presume are/were the underwriters for HSBC (Who know nothing of my claim)
Just have no idea what to do as I havnt gotten any of the letters and surly insurance should have paid this anyway?! Although on 3rd letter it says my insurance company have been contacted and have not paid this or responded....
Can goods be removed from my parents even when I havnt lived there for 4 years?
Been googling all night but all I can find is threads on running away, from debt, but obviously in this case I had no one to inform as this isnt a creditor and I had no idea of it till today??
Thanks for any help in advance!!!!
Update: Spoke to HSBC today, they have said the underwritters went into liquidation in 2008 they bought all the insurance off them and so as my accident was in 2007 there is nothing they can do for me?
Even more confused and upset as all I can think about is not being able to pay the 1,550 and the bailiffs going to my parents address. I feel I have no time to sort this out....

Why did you not get the letters?
Who was your insurers (HSBC - it's not clear in the OP), they should have paid up.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
I didnt get the letters as they were sent to my parents address where the accident happened and I dont live there anymore, I have only just been over this weekend to visit and they were there....
I was paying my insurance to a company called BDML connect - I called Natwest and double checked this.
I dont know who they are?! But I called tesco who advised me I was insured with HSBC, I called them and they have said they bought the insurance papers from a company (who they didnt know the details of)
I am confused as it sounds as I have no idea what anyone is on about?!
The letter says they have contacted my insurance company who have not responded - which if they no longer exist they cant sort it out?!
As this was 4 years ago I no longer have any insurance details of my own as obviously I havnt heard anything about it till yesterday!!0 -
I can't understand why your parents didn't forward the letters onto you.
In anycase if HSBC has brought BDML connect they they are libel to sort it out. Send a letter by registered post explaining the situation to HSBC.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
If you havee a CCJ already against you that you knew nothing about, you need to look into getting an application against judgement to set this aside until it can be addressed properly.
What court was it heard in? You can contact them directly to get more information but you sound like you could also do with a visit with the CAB as the insurance situation sounds like a mess."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
two things I'd be doing
application to the court to get the judgement set aside on the grounds that you had no knowledge of the proceedings and/or you have a defence. Used to be a simple form plus a witness statement/stat dec & a small fee
Contact ABI and/or MIB, one or both will know who assumed the outstanding liabilities when your previous insurer was sold on0 -
They didn't forward them to me as everyone who needs to know where I live knows!
I owe nothing and this is the first CCJ I have ever had, the only thing that ever goes to my parents address is junk mail which they just save in case I want to look at it - as some of the post has voucher codes etc inside, so they have no reason to forward anything on to me - However my parents not forwarding junk mail to me isnt really the issue - the issue is to find out who I was insured with and there for someone who can help me with this mess....
Ok I will contact them on Tuesday (stupid bank holl)
HSBC are adamant its nothing to do with them as they took over the accounts a year after my accident.
I am presuming then all I need to contact the ABI and/or MIB would be my then registration number of the car? I do have a policy number also?
The case was heard at Northampton Court on the 27th of April.
Also worried about if its not sorted within these 10 days I have left can bailiffs remove my parents property - I am not even on the electoral roll there!0 -
You don't say when the letters arrived. Was it shortly after accident or recently? Either way if you reported to your insurance company then they, or their successors if taken over, should deal with this.
If there was any payouts due, from hour description the other driver would be partially or fully responsible, either way the only person who should be chasing you up should be the insurance company if you had an excess to pay and you were held partially responsible. Take mrcow advice re CCJ.0 -

Don't get angry with volunteers - that is not the way to get help.
BDML Direct DOES still exist. See here for details.
It is not the insurer but an intermediary. Nevertheless, there is a good chance it still has details of your policy and knows who the insurer was.
If the insurer does not exist any more, you will be able to seek assistance from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. As the 3rd party cover is compulsory, it should pay 100% of the claim - although it may choose to fight it.0 -

That might explain why the other party decided to take legal action against you personally.kimberley7979 wrote: »...I was paying my insurance to a company called BDML connect - I called Natwest and double checked this. I dont know who they are?!
BDML Connect are part of Capita - they're still going. But they only do the admin. Their contact no is 0844 335 0398 and they might be able to tell you who they were acting for in your case....Contact ABI and/or MIB, one or both will know who assumed the outstanding liabilities when your previous insurer was sold on
If the underwriter was insolvent, the answer might be the FSCS.0
