Has anyone tried hypnosis?
Comments

my friend had one session to stop smoking 6 years ago and hasnt smoked, or wanted to since.
I had one session for generalised anxiety, it was the most weird experience I've ever had but it worked there and then and I also got "tools" to use after it which have also helped.
good luck x0 -
Even if it doesn't work it is an interesting experience and very relaxing.
I think you've made a brilliant point here- aside from not smoking, the hypnotist has given my husband a lot of relaxation techniques that he can use at home. He's sleeping better and it used to be as soon as he woke up in the morning he was up, even if it was 2-3am. Now he can relax himself down enough to go back to sleep.
I daresay, not dragging himself out of bed to get that first nicotine hit probably does help"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye."...Miss piggy0 -
I've tried it for fear of flying, weight loss and smoking.
Cured my fear of flying with two sessions - that was 20 years ago. I worked for an airline back then and spent the next 15 years flying every two to three weeks. No problems at all, flying became just like getting on a bus, dead easy. . However, since I stopped working for the airline five years ago, I now only fly once or twice a year and have noticed I'm starting to get a bit jittery again. So I'd consider having another hypnotherapy session.
Smoking, I smoked 20-40 a day, and had done for about 30 years. I went for one hypnosis session 9 years ago and stopped immediately. Nearly a year later, I slipped up and smoked during a stressful family event. The hypnotherapist had given me a two year guarantee after my first session, so I went back and had one more session with no extra charge, and that was it. Never smoked since.
Weight loss...not so good for me. Because it worked so well for me with fear of flying and smoking I've tried two or three times but it doesn't seem to work for me for slimming.0 -
If it worked I was considering rebooking with him for nail biting.
But found a great technique online and haven't bitten them for 2 days0 -
I did for fear of hospitals, i couldn't even visit anyone with out getting totally freaked out at the front door, it did help, I then sat and watched OH give blood without wanting to freak out and even watch somebody take blood from me/injections, it also helped my self confidence. I think was also helped was I had a cd from a previous session and I use to listen to that to help reforce the work that had been done. When I go to the dentist I use the same techniques to help me relax in the chair (up until I was 16 I would refuse to have my mouth numb if I was getting fillings etc and bear the pain instead!), I was a dentist's complete nightmare! Even having teeth extracted used to be a fight with them giving me the anesthetic as I used to fight like hell not to get it!0

I did hypnobirthing and have to say it was my best birth experience by far. I wouldn't hesitate to undergo hypnotherapy again.0

Mine was fear of flying 3 sessions about 20 years ago, I went from couldn't get on a plane to being the most relaxed flyer ever, even during delays and stresses and the extra security and anxiety of 9/11. The only way I can describe it is that airport and airplanes now make me feel relaxed and content.0

A close friend of mine is a qualified hypnotherapist. She tells me that there are a percentage of people who cannot be hypnotised and for them the sessions are obviously useless. For most things, for the majority of subjects, several sessions may be required. If it's for smoking cessation I would consider it money well-spent if it works but you won't know beforehand whether it will or not. I suspect that if you want it to and believe that it will help you, you have a better chance of it working by the placebo effect if you do turn out to be one of the ten-percenters.0

A good hypnotherapist should offer you a consultation before you commit to pay anything I would have thought; this would give you an opportunity to ask any questions and to find out a bit if you think it will be a good choice for you.
I did six sessions for anxiety, it wasn't cheap but as alanalea said, it's really good for relaxing and I still use the CDs I got a year later when I'm finding it hard to keep calm or sleep on some days. I don't know how it works for smoking though.
