I rang Abbey National and they send out a standard form to fill in with your dets on and return it. Only one sheet so relatively easy. I'll post if i hear anything.;)

I need to ring the Abbey what do you actually say /ask for when you ring up? Also what amount are we actually claiming for? Is it the fee they charged - in our case £225 less the £50 its been said was a reasonable charge ie £175 or the £225 less whta they originally said they would chrage you in the contract? The latter I don't know but assume would be higher than £50.

Hi everybody anyway - this is my first post hope it works. This is a great site by the way. Martin's info is fantastic and everyone is so helpful:T

    Thanks

Contacted B&B today on the number quoted in Martin's reference table and was given the following address to write to:
Customer Relations, H55/EF, B&B, PO Box 2, Main Street
    Bingley, West Yorks, BD16 2LW

I was told to write in giving the following details:
Mortgage property address, current address(if different),
Account Number, date mortgage commenced, date redeemed, Name and date of birth of all mortgage holders.

Hope this is of some help!

    Hi

I still havent found out what I was charged by IF (anyone else know?), but I called them to ask for this back and was told that they were aware of the FSA investigation etc and claimed that IF would not be refunding any money. This is because they were within all of the guidelines set out by the FSA unlike other banks.

    Is this true?

Can anyone please confirm if "sol. fees" are a Mortgage Exist Admin Fee (MEAF). We were charge £100 back in 2004.
Would I be justified in claiming it back?

    I would appreciate your advice

    Kind regards
    Clare

The bank rang me a short time ago and said that in my agreement way back in 1995 the words "a fee will be applied" and but no exact amount mentioned. But she did say it was a MEAF.
So where do I stand now? How much..if any?

    Just realised i maybe should of posted here;Can anyone advise if Bristol&West are correct in their reply;
After reviewing our records I note that you were charged a fee of £150 to redeem your mortgage on 11th September 2003.This was a standard fee that was charged to all our customers and which was inline with market practice at the time.Under the terms prevailing at the time of completion of your mortgage in June 1997,you would have been charged £87.50 plus 10 days interest, atotal amount of £158.50.You have therefore benefited from the amendment to our fees over the period of your mortgage`
I am assuming Fee 1997=£87.50,Fee charged 11th Sept 2003 £150 and the 10 days interest 1-11 Sept £70.80.Can they calculate in this way even though the fee changed during term to say i have benefited over this period.

    Hi everyone
I have just had a amount owing statement which I rquested fromthe Halifax so I could see what I owed.
I took out my first mortgage with Halifax in 2004 for a 2 year fixed rated. I then stayed with Halifax and took out a 5 year fixed rate.
I notice from the statement that
    I owe 73,614.20
    Repaymenet administration fee 75.00
    Early repayment charge 2645.54
    Totalling 74,334.74

It's blooming cheeky of them to charge me over £2,600 to repay them early when I was taking another mortgage out with them. Can I claim any of the above payments back? Thanks for your help.

Five mins to find paperwork, 5 minute phone call. £90 refunded , plus £13 interest. Cash on its way to me bank from the Cheltenham and Gloucester.

Thanks for the gentle nagging to claim my free cash.

OK, thanks for the extra info. So, assuming that they held the property as joint tenants, the property will be 100% owned by the son in law now. The mortgage will also be in single names (effectively) because one of the parties has died.

Accordingly, I can't see what C&G are up to. All that's happening is that someone who is getting married is adding their new wife to their mortgage. That's completely normal, and shouldn't need very much hassle (or cost) at all. Certainly no penalties for redemption UNLESS they chose to change product. Certainly no MEAF because they are not redeeming.

Thanks for that info, any ideas how we should progress? Write to C&G ask for it all back? Or are there any numbers for C&G or forms. Seems this is more than just a dodgy exit fee to me.
