  • We want to switch our mortgage from Abbey and they want to levy a £225 exit fee, I gather that this is illegal, so do we pay it and reclaim, or argue about it before?

I am looking for the same answer, I am planning to start the switch to another lender soon. I have the original documents for my current mortgage from 7 years ago stating quite modest fees, which are now in the silly region of £199 - Do I demand they lower this before the switch or try to claim it back after its all done and dusted?
  • 1000's may have been paid, but has anyone had any luck with C&G? I wrote my letter to them over two weeks ago - using the template as suggested, with the "please reply within 7 days" and.... nothing.

    What's my next step?

I have remortgaged several times, last few with C & G Through LTSB. I now have 4 different account numbers with them and wonder how I can find out what fees I have been charged. I cant find any paperwork.

I am claiming against Abbey who I had a mortgage with from 2002 - 2005. I have my paperwork which clearly states £99 exit fee and then I was charged £225 so Im pretty confident with this one. I called them up and they are sending me a form to complete.

Before Abbey, I had a mortgage with Barclays from 1999 - 2002. I don't have any paperwork, don't know my mortgage number or have a clue what I was charged in exit fees.

Do I have a claim against Barclay and if so, how do I go about it?

    Thanks

    Hi every 1,
I paid off the mortgage with northern rock in 2004, not sure what i was charged but i could probably find out, but then i remortgaged with spml, and kensington mortgages, this 1 isnt listed on the list with the others, so i was wondering if i would still be able 2 reclaim my charges back from them.

Any help you could give me would be really appreciated.

Just ringing up spml now as ive found all my details and account info from them, ill keep you posted as to how i get on as ive already been transfered to different ppl about 4 times :|

    HI,

Success just phone up Standard Life and said they would send the full amount over to me.

    just one quick question

Can you claim the deeds handling fee back- or is that different.

Also any one had experience with Legal and General Bank or IF??

It would be useful if someone could compile a list of the different banks.

    thank-you.

    Nigel

Also I keep checking the FSA site but there is no update there. What is their view on whether we should get interest or not??

    Thanks-you

Hi: On 26th February I posted a refund demand to Standard Life Bank for an 16-month old mortgage Discharge Fee (£185) and Deeds Handling Fee (£30). On 6th March, I received a cheque for the total amount (£215) with an admission that those fees were not included in the mortgage offer document in 1999. Thank you Martin!

    Hi,

I have read through all the stuff about this and am wondering if the following situation counts.

We have a mortgage with Northern Rock which we have had since July 2003. In November 2006 we decided to take out some more money on our mortgage but when I asked about secured loans was instead told to have a 'Mortgage Review' which basically gave us a completely new mortgage with the extra amount included. For the privilege of this I was charged £250. When reading through the documents I have sent they say this was the charge for closing down the old mortgage.

My question basically is does this count as something I could ask to be reduced or refunded? Surely it didn't cost them £250!
Sorry it's so long winded and thank you so much for your help!!!
