i contacted GMAC today and they said that because we paid off the mortgage in 2005 we are not entitled to the money back. but had we paid it off in 2006 then we can??? Does this sound right to anybody cos i cant see the difference myself? Are they trying it on?
Thanks0 -

Only if the extra year saw their MEAF rise in price which would mean a refund was necessary - you really need to them to clarify what they mean.0 -
please can you tell me if i need all the past mortgage details as i no longer have my account number etc after selling my house last year, all i know is that my mortgage was with rbs!0

I am in the process of remortgaging from Abbey to Halifax now and can see that I am going to be charged more that originally quoted. I want to just get the completion over with though and don't want to query things at this stage because I've gone back onto the higher rate. Will this make it harder to claim back?Sealed pot challenge - £400 no.4910

I repaid my mortgage with the Abbey earlier this year and paid a MEAF of £225. When I took out the mortgage in 1997 I was given a "tariff of charges" leaflet that quoted a Deeds Handling fee of £65 and a Discharge fee of £55. It's not clear from the leaflet but presumably both charges would have applied, i.e. the most I can claim for is £105?
Other people on this board have claimed (and received) £126 from the Abbey - -i.e. their original MEAF was £99 even though their mortgages were taken out later than mine was.
Should I even mention an original amount at all in my letter?

I've said before, several times, in this thread and others that I don't agree with Martin's proforma letter. There is no need or benefit in specifying the original amount due - the lender can work it out perfectly well for themselves, and it's not like they are going to just take your word for it.
So just tell them that you have been charged more than you originally agreed to pay - end of story. They will work out the correct refund and send it to you.0 -
Hi,
Can anyone tell me the address i should send my letter to for Natwest?I rang the number shown in the chart But that was for the RBS and although they own Natwest they won't deal with it.They gave me Natwests number and Natwest say i am not entitled to any money.I know i am so i am writing to them instead.Do i write to the address in the chart(that could be RBS)Or do i write to the address that is in all my letters from Natwest mortgage centre in Birmingham?0 -
