  • Now that everyone is checking back through their MEA fees (and hopefully claiming them back!) I think the Banks are trying to get their own back - Abbey have now added the following clause to their mortgage contracts -

"A Mortgage Administration fee (current fee) for providing, maintaining and closing your mortgage is payable at the end of your mortgage. The amount we charge you will not exceed this amount (£225) plus the annual increase of the RPI calculated to the end of your mortgage."

Who can predict what the RPI will do during the next couple of years? and for anyone who doesn't change their mortgage, they could end up paying RPI compound interest over 25 years. I thought that the FSA regulations meant that consumers had to be given clear and concise information up front about any costs they might incur?

I thought you might like to investigate this one further?
  • I have submitted a claim to C&G as I cleared my account in 2004 when we decided to re-locate to Spain. I cannot find my reference number, but gave them all details of the property etc. Today they replied saying they cannot find anything connected to the details I gave them!! I find it unacceptable with today's technology that they should come back with this answer. How should I now pursue the matter?
  • Hi Martin
We are just abouts to finish our mortgage with Northern Rock. Can you tell me is it best to ask about the exit fee before we finish or reclaim after?
  • I have just repaid mymortgage with Halifax and they only charged me a small amount, as per code. However I also had a secured loan that I repaid at the same time with another company and they charged me a lot more - do secured loans come under this legislation or not?

    Many thanks if anyone knows.

  • hi ive just read the table of figures relating to the figures for MEAF's. It shows the Abbey as previously being £225, now £0. I went into our local branch last week and was quoted £225. All we want to do is shift our mortgage to another property when we move, dont want more money. The lady said it was a charge for the early settlement of our mortgage, but did say that there would be no charge for setting up the new mortgage. I dont think we should have to pay this £225, am i right?

Can anybody please advise - we have had previous mortgages with GMAC and Kensignton Mortgages though we no longer have the account details so do I just call them to reclaim the exit fees, will they listen even though we haven't got our old account numbers. Both accounts were finished in the past 5 years. Any help much appreciated. Have looked on the table and these mortgage providers are not listed???
