I just called the Halifax, thanks to MSE, asking for a refund on our old mortgage account. Took it out in 1991 and moved in 2001, they told me was quoted £40 in 1991, but took £75 in 2001. This is a lot less than that quoted on your site.

Why is this? They were helpful and said they would send it out witin 28 days.

I called the Halifax today, quoted £75 in 2002 charged me £100 in 2004. I thought it would have been higher. Called Halifax back to confirm this is just for the mortgage release fee. Deeds release fee is £50 and has never changed so nothing to claim back there!.

Just called the Kensington - apparently could not tell me what I was quoted as an Exit feein 2001, however when mortgage was closed in 2003 they charged me £145.00. They said they have conducted their own investigation into mortgage exit fees - how the bloody hell do they get away with that????????

I sent my letters off over two weeks ago. I have had one repsonse and a rebate from the Cheshire but the Bradford and Bingley have sent nothing.

What have people done on here if the banks have not replied by the 14 days as stipulated on the template letter?

There's nothing magic about the 14 days. If lenders have a lot of queries, they might take longer than 14 days. They should at least acknowledge a complaint but they don't need to substantively reply within 14 days.

    Hi!
Apologies if this has been asked already. Have just checked our Mortgage Redemption statement from Birmingham Midshires last year and it has a 'Vacating Fee' of £150.00 on it. Does anyone know if this is this the same as an exit fee?! I'm confused?!!!!!
    Thanks!

Have just sent email to Birmingham Midshire about my exit fees from 2005 just quoting my a/c no, and quickly got a reply saying I was charged £150 instead of £100 and have had £50 refunded.
  • Hi Guys

Just reading some posts there regarding mortgages, early settlements etc, just wondering if anyone can answer this one !

I took out a mortgage about 4 years ago with a company called Kensington it was an interest only mortgage. I had the mortgage for 8 months never missed a payment , done the house up and sold it on. The House went on the market on the Friday morning and the 1st viewing i had it sold.

When all the money came through i had to pay off the Kensington £10,000 yes £10 k i went back into rented with my husband and didnt think anything else of it CAN I RECLAIM MY £10,000??????

Look forward to what i hope will be a positive responce :j

Sounds like an early redemption fee based on the type of mortgage product you had rather than an exit fee.

I doubt you will be entitled to anything back unfortunately. When you took on the mortgage you would have agreed to keep it for a set time (2 or 3 years??) By selling so soon you would have incured the penalty. Why you were given such a product if you intended to sell quickly is odd and I would question that with your broker or whoever you sourced the mortgage with. (start a new thread if you want to explore this further, as this thread is for MEAFs).

  • We remortgaged a few years ago and chnaged from GMAC to the Halifax and have no paperwork left from GMAC. How do i find out what their charges are, and / or does anybody know???
They are not listed on Martins list and i would seem a bit stupid just to call GMAC up and ask them?? Or is that what i have to do.
    Please help!!

  • hi there,
i redeemed my mortgage at the end of a three year term. i was charged as follows
    deeds production fee £50.00
    repayment admin fee £135.00
    Early repayment charge £374.57

the first two charges have since been amended to £40 & £115 respectively
i was wondering if i may have a case to claim the £374.57 back. i beleive that this charge was one months interest .
    thank you
