NEW Mortgage Exit Fees Discussion

Have been searching for details of Bank of Scotland's mortgage exit fees, but can't find any mention of them. Would this be because they are actually HBoS, & if so do I just phone the number quoted for Halifax? If this is right then I stand to get £150 just from a phone call and a short form filling session. Anyone help?0

On the other hand, you could just ring the Abbey and see what they say.0 -
I just called the Halifax, thanks to MSE, asking for a refund on our old mortgage account. Took it out in 1991 and moved in 2001, they told me was quoted £40 in 1991, but took £75 in 2001. This is a lot less than that quoted on your site.
Why is this? They were helpful and said they would send it out witin 28 days.0 -

MarkyMarkD @shelley24 - send the cheque back to Abbey with a letter signed by both of them, asking that it's redrawn in the single name of (and name one of them).
Suggestion for others - ask for the cheque to be drawn in single names when you first write to your lender, if it's a problem for you to get the cheque in joint names. But you will normally need both signatures on your original letter for this to work.
Thanks Marky Mark, i initially put on the forms we had to send back that we wanted the cheque in one name and got btoh him and his dad to sign it, seems they weren't feeling very nice and completely ignored me, lol0 -
I do not have the documentation anymore. So its a case of taking their word for it!
If anyone else has had a claim against the Halifax, would be interested to know what tey were charged.
ThanksWas it from Martin's article that you were basing your assumptions? If so, it is stated that they can't be 100% about accuracy. The safest way to check this out, is to examine your mortgage documentation.0 -

Have just got through to C & G who have confirmed we are entitleld to £143 refund Yippee :j
my mortgage was with c&g, do you need any details when you call up? i no longer have a mortgage and havent kept any paperwork. i have emailed my solicitor who dealt with it to ask for a copy of my final statement to see what i was charged. but if i can do it over the phone without an account number that would be a bonus!
does anyone know if this is possible? It only seems kinky the first time.. :A0 -
Not sure about C&G, but I called the Halifax, with no account details to hand. All they asked for was my name and address and date of birth. Then said where do you want the cheque sent to? How easy is that? Good luck.crispeater wrote: »my mortgage was with c&g, do you need any details when you call up? i no longer have a mortgage and havent kept any paperwork. i have emailed my solicitor who dealt with it to ask for a copy of my final statement to see what i was charged. but if i can do it over the phone without an account number that would be a bonus!
