NEW Mortgage Exit Fees Discussion

I used to have a Bank of Scotland mortgage.
Can I claim for a £45 'Release of Security Fee', which has not been mentioned in my original Mortgage offer of 2003? It is separate to the early redemption charge of £150.
Thanks!0 -
Please forgive a money saving virgin this, what may turn out to be a stupid question, but does the refund of MEAF only apply if the actual inital figure was NOT stated in the mortgage details. Here's the thing, my documents, from C&G, state that the exit fee (MEAF) is £250.00. So if it states this am I still entitled to claim, or will I make myself look a right plank by even asking them? So confusing!!
Thanks in advance!!0 -
Just a quick question,
As i said before i am about to be charged by Natwest £225 sealing fees when i should only be charged £85,So do i claim it after i have completed my re-mortgage(which is in the next few days)or do i do something about it now before i get charged?

I would suggest allowing the £225 to stand so that the remortgage goes as planned and then claim back any refund due thereafter, to avoid any delays on your remortgage0 -
You can only claim a refund if C&G charges you anything extra than £250 that appears on your documents for a MEAF. Refer to Martin's acticle for a more detailed explanationsimonMcgill wrote: »Please forgive a money saving virgin this, what may turn out to be a stupid question, but does the refund of MEAF only apply if the actual inital figure was NOT stated in the mortgage details. When you make the call do you need to know how much you paid in exit fees or are they quite willing to be up front about it? I dont have my paperwork from my previous lender!0

my girlfriend phoned her bank, and they told her that she had signed a piece of paper agreeing to the change of MEAF. She exited her mortgage in April 06 when we bought a house together. they told her she signed this in 2005, as part of her re-mortgage after her fixed rate ran out.
any advice please?0 -
Only that your girlfriend will need to confirm what she actually signed for. If she re-mortgaged, then its possible she agreed to updated/new t&cs (including a new higher MEAF). Only your girlfriend can confirm this.suitsyousir wrote: »my girlfriend phoned her bank, and they told her that she had signed a piece of paper agreeing to the change of MEAF. I would imagine it really depends on the lender and then the luck of the draw of who you speak to. Feedback via these threads seems to be generally positive so its your own decision. When you make the call do you need to know how much you paid in exit fees or are they quite willing to be up front about it? I always poked fun at my wife for daring to watch such lowbrow TV like GMTV in the mornings (or "The Shiny Show" as I call it).
That was until the day she told me about the interesting article on there about reclaiming mortgage fees!!
I have just contacted the Abbey to reclaim the difference on the £99 fee they hiked to £225 in only 3 years!!! Claim form is in the post and I am happy to finally get something back.
I guess I have to be nice about GMTV now ....0
