Also spotted that deal when looking for something for OH who is out of contract at the end of the month - seems like a bargain and I'll be getting OH to use it to bargain with Orange. If they dont bite then would probably just go for it. Lot of phone for the money (and a decent amount of inclusive calls etc too)

    Quidco too :)

Simply wait a month after all the hype of the S3 has died down when the better deals should be available. The S3 is clearly the better phone so just be patient and you will have an up to speed current phone.
    Good Luck Everyone:dance:

You've got to remember that the S3 will be worth more when you come to sell it, I'd go for the S3, there's no point buying a phone thats been out a year

You know, it never occurred to me to consider the 2nd hand value when buying a mobile. In 2 years time the technology is likely to have moved on quite considerably, you have no guarantee that the S3 will have any more value than the S2 by then, what if, by then we don't carry mobiles about with us, but simply wear 'communi-spectacles' or something? Anyway, if the phone still does all I need in 2 years time, I might just keep using it, what's the point in changing just for the sake of changing??

I might look at the resale value when I buy a house or a car, but not a phone.

I got a contract with an S2 in February. A couple of folk said "you are mad, wait for the S3", but the S2 does everything I want or need (much more probably), and I am totally chuffed with it. If I had waited to buy the S3 a) I would have paid more, b) someone would have said "oh you chump why didn't you wait or the S4 - cos there will always be another model out in a few months.

If you want a smartphone which is readable/usable/a smart bit of kit, buy the S2. If you want a gadget to show off to your mates in the pub as the newest thing around, and have spare money to fling about, buy the S3. I'd stick with the S2 in your shoes tho'
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

I've just been debating about this. I was actually comparing iphone and samsung deals then saw the new S3 was coming out so looked at the tariffs for that. Even though the other models are older it seems it'll work out about the same monthly cost for any of them so I was thinking I might as well go for the newer S3. That way I'll get good use out of it for the two year contract and then can trade it in for a decent amount. I've seen a good deal with cashback for one on Three but I've never been with them. Are they any good or are they not worth bothering with?

3 would not budge on price, my contract runs out at the end of the month. All they would offer me was the same as on their website £25 per month and a one off £29 for the phone. Although they did make me an wonderfull offer of knocking £5 off the one off charge, big deal. I have had the PAC code from them and my new S2 is being delivered Wednesday from E2save.

I bought a S1 off ebay for £110, upgraded the software to the latest and matched it with
    [self censored]

...because with free 0800 numbers, crossnetwork minutes at 10p/min and data if you do the maths there's no contract to match it.

Some say you get a lot of minutes "free" and txts etc but I find in practice you never use them and it's a waste of time, especially for calling 0845 numbers don't you agree?

As for the S1 instead of S2, the main difference is the 5MP camera instead of 8MP and the second CPU. I don't think it's worth paying £300 for either of those don't you think?

Just to make the decision clearer for pay as you go, take away the price of the phone and with the leftover credit divide that by the number of cross network minutes. You find it's probably about 6p/min. But:
    - no 0845, 0871
    - no 0800 unlike [censored]
    - the price of the phone goes down by the time your contract is up
    - you're not free to swap sims if a friend runs out of credit
    - it's a risk when going abroad, a risk on your credit file

Why bother with contracts? Doing the maths, actually doing the maths I fail to see the point.

    Go with
    [self censored]

and use a 0800 service for more expensive calls

edit: just to absolutely clear in case you're completely blind, that's an affiliate link.
Also, why not 3 pay as you go? That's who I was with before giffgaff. Only reason I left was because they were repeatedly charging me for calls made when I was in the middle of the ocean...
Order of events: Banks lose our money -> get bailed out -> were inflating GBP to cover it -> now taxing us -> next will grab your funds direct -> things get really desperate to balance the books. What should have happened?: banks go bust and we lost our money much quicker

if you dont need / want the extra features of the S3 mentioned on the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7Vjvsg6xrk& then settle for the S2 or equivalent alternatives
