New phone - Samsung S2 or S3?

My contract is due up shortly and looking to get new phone. Now the S3 is out there appear to be a few deals now for the S2.

I can get the S3 free on orange for £36 pm, the S2 on same tariff I can get with 6month cashback (£216).

I know the S2 is older, decent phone and tried/tested, so am tempted to take the older model, what are others thoughts? Which is the better one to go for?

I would never buy a phone soon after it was launched and when the prices are still sky high.

I have thought that and also the new one might be buggy (have been caught out before with buggy phone).

I think i will likely go the S2 route, as it's established and still a decent phone.

been there and done that with new phones as soon as they are launched, fingers very severely burned

You've got to remember that the S3 will be worth more when you come to sell it, I'd go for the S3, there's no point buying a phone thats been out a year

Will it be worth £200 more in 2 years though, as that's the saving in line rental cashback with the S2.

I like the look of both and yes the S3 has nice new features, but i tend to use for calls, txt, photos music and internet so unsure it worth paying the extra

It won't be worth an extra £200 no, but it is worth paying the extra, there's no point in buying a phone that isnt the best you can buy

Really? Is this a universal truth? Does it apply to phones only?

Why buy something thats a year old when you can buy the latest version for slightly more? Fair enough if there's not much difference but you get so much more with the S3. If the difference is only £216 over two years minus the extra value of the S3 when you flog it then go for the S3

    How 'slightly'?
If you need to move daily from A to B and back, why buy Polo if you can buy Golf? Why buy a one year old Polo if you can buy a brand new one?
If you need a phone "for calls, txt, photos music and internet", why is it S3 that you need? For this purpose, the only real advantage against S2 is the screen 1/2" bigger and with a higher resolution . If the OP does need this, it is worth considering S3, but not because it is some "latest version".

Fine I take it back, he should buy a Nokia 5110 so he can save a few quid. We're talking about a difference of maybe £100 over two years, not the difference between a new Golf and a banger
