New pregnancy concern

Hi All,

I am just 8 weeks pregnant. This morning I was bleeding slightly and have had period-like pains, but no major pains or discomfort as such.

I went to emergency unit at hospital this am. Checked me out and cervix is closed. They took blood samples and I have to go for a scan tomorrow at 3pm.

Obviously I am very worried. Has anyone been through a similar situation?

Thanks for any help and advice.

I bled during both my pregnancies but everything turned out fine, no real explanation. Almost 50% of pregnancies experience some bleeding during the gestation period.
Did they scan you at the hospital, seeing the heartbeat would have reassured you no end.
    Fingers crossed for you.

If your cervix is closed I would say that's a really good sign. Even with the cervix open a bit I was told that it does not automatically mean miscarriage.

Just try and take it as easy as possible until you have been back to the hospital (I know that's hard but please try)

I had cramping and bleeding at around the same time. The resultant baby (in the avatar) will be one next Tuesday and has just gone to bed, so its not always bad news.

At least you're getting reassurance by being offered a scan. I was told that there was no point doing a scan as if it was a miscarriage it would be a miscarriage with or without a scan and the best I could do was cross my fingers and hope for the best. We paid for a private scan at 12weeks as I didn't get one on NHS and for the reassurance everything was okay or not as the bleeding had continued some of which was quite heavy (as in needed a towel rather than just spots on paper).

Hope everything goes well at the scan and for the rest of the pregnancy. Please post back (or pm me) and let us know how it went. Will be thinking of you and the little one

Hello. I bled at 7 weeks and 9 weeks with my son. Both times only small amounts but very worrying at the time! Had a scan the second time which showed a heart-beat and all was okay.

All the best. Try not to worry and rest as much as possible.

I have and I am sorry to say the outcome wasn't good. However I am only saying that as when I looked for help in your situation I wanted to hear both sides good & bad (and most people only post good). The chances are in your favour and I was unlucky. There are a couple of good websites that you may find useful. Not sure if I am allowed to post links to other sites on here? If I am let me know or if not send me a PM with your e mail & I'll let you know. Take care & good luck.

  • it wasn't good news for me either but i know lots of women who had early bleeding with no problems. my cervix was closed and they could see nothing to worry about but i miscarried a few hours later, before my scan.

it's horrible not getting the scan straight away isn't it, and they can't listen for a heartbeat at that stage. i hated the not knowing.

i hope things are okay for you!

  • I bled all the way through my first pregnancy. At one point (20 weeks) i woke up as i was soaking wet. I got up to go to the loo and me and my bed were covered in blood - i passed a couple of MASSIVE clots also. I even went into shock because i lost so much and was hospitalised.

Suffice to say, they never found out why and i have a healthy 20 month old monster upstairs!!

i bled quite early on with my first pregnancy and again had to have an internal scan which showed a star-like flicker which was the heartbeat. The resulting 8 year old is currently in her bedroom doing her homework!. If the cervix is closed I should imagine that is a good time and it is just hormonal, but you are not really going to rest until you have had your scan are you? I hope everything is ok for you.

hi im 4 months pregnant now,not so long ago i was bleeding in fact it was quite like a period bleed,i was really really worried,i wasnt registered with a doctor in this area or anything,i had to end up foning the early feotal unit at blackpool vic,i gota scan the next day and everything was hunky dory, this is my fourth child, and each time each pregnancy is diffrent,i know its hard not to worry, cause i worried myself to death lol,but honestly it might not be anything, theres such a thing called a hormonal bleed, which is a pregnant woman still having periods throughout her pregnancy, and like most others have said if your cervix is closed sounds like a good sign, good luck and keep us informed, xxxx
    It`s getting to the point
