Cheapest studio in Bristol is £270/mth. Several available for under £400. Rates, etc will be lower, too. Or get a flat share.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Also it might be worth having a look to see if you can get Working Tax Credit although I think this is based on the previous years income so might not be much help until this time next yr.

If that's the case then who on earth 'needs' £13k in addition to rent/mortgage in order to live?

Someone who was earning double, and has payments to keep up on an expensive motor? Or debts to pay off?

If you have debt as bitterandtwisted suspects, how about starting a dmp with a free company such as payplan or cccs, this can reduce your outgoings a fair bit .

Get a second job, perhaps behind a bar in the evenings. I know a few people who are doing this to keep themselves above water.

Sorry, didn't expect so many replies, it will increase by roughly 6k as I'll have to start paying rent.

Again, I am looking for other jobs and houses, but nothing as come up yet.

I live with my partner, who is also looking for work (she is currently unemployed).

I'm currently spending out £250 for food, drink, cleaning stuff, £50 for water, £120 for council tax, £40 for elec, £80 for gas, £90 for internet and mobiles (can't get out of these without paying hundreds of cancellation fees), £200 for loan debt.

I can reduce food, but not enough that I'll be able to afford rent.

Sorry, the amounts were before tax.

As I said I spoke to the council and they said the total amount of all benefits is a few hundred a year.

So you are currently spending a grand a month and that doesn't include your rent?

What do you spend it on?
