Going to be unable to afford rent

Hello
A few months ago, I had a £28,000 job and a £850/month house, but I had to leave the job and move into a much cheaper house (£550/month), I paid 6 months up front and I got a job that pays £14,000. I currently need 13k to live, but in a few months I'll need 20k, and my company can/will not increase my pay.

I can't reduce my living costs, and I currently can't find a better job.

I checked turn2us and they said I can get a few hundred a year, which wouldn't cover even a month. I rang the council they said there's nothing else they do.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

(I will homeless in 4 months unless I find something, I have no friends or family to turn to)

the part in red simply doesnt stand.
hat you mean is you can't afford the standard of living you have.
if it means moving into a shared house/flat,bedsit or whatever.then thats what it takes.
a £6000 shortfall in income is a pipedream

Most people are able to reduce their living expenses - download the MSE budget planner and try - loads of hints and tips across the site on how to live ultra frugal. Many people are able to increase their income - see the Up Your Income board.

What accounts for the leap in 'needing 13k' to 'needing 20k'? That's a massive increase in 'need'?

If you've got your own self contained place, the best way to slash living costs is to move into a shared property or lodgings.

Housing benefit is very modest for those under the age of 35 due to a recent change where they are now expected to share a property rather than having their own place whereas it used to be 25.

For info on homelessness, see the Shelter website.

The big question here is why you are shortly going to need 20k to live on when you currently only need 13k?

Even £13k sounds high for a single person (I presume this is the case), given that your rent is £550k per month. £20k per annum is not far off the UK average household income - how is this figure broken down and why the sudden rise?

I'm sorry, I am confused by your statement that you currently need £13000 pa to live but will soon need £20000. Please will you explain for the hard of understanding (ie me!)what you mean by this?

I assume that the extra £7k represents the rent that will have to be paid on a monthly basis? (550 x 12 = 6600, rounded up)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

How about taking in a lodger, i know someone who slept on the sofa in the lounge and rented out their bedroom to bring extra money in .

On a salary of £28k you should have been able to put away a decent amount of savings for a rainy day. It seems that all you managed was that six months rent in advance. With a salary of £14K it's unlikely that you were going to be able to afford a rent of £550 a month so I don't understand why you didn't see that one coming.

You have four months to examine your out-goings and make radical changes to your spending and your commitments. I suspect you may be carrying a fair amount of debt on your shoulders so I suggest you pop over to the Debt-Free-Wannabe part of the forum and see what you can do to for yourself if you can't increase your income.

Meanwhile, get the forms in for a claim for LHA (Local Housing Allowance) as it sounds like even if it was a fiver you could use it.

It could mean that you have to adjust your expectations and consider finding a flat or house-share or becoming someone's lodger if you budget won't allow for living independently in a self-contained property.

If that's the case then who on earth 'needs' £13k in addition to rent/mortgage in order to live?
