BMI Regional have just been bought by Aberdeen consortium who hope to keep most routes going.

So there may still be hope for bmibaby

No hope at all I fear. They lose far too much money and it's a wonder they survived this long. Whilst it is absolutely no consolation to superflygirl and her colleagues you can at least say that IAG are keeping a lot of the flights going over the summer when it must have been tempting to simply wind the airline up immediately. I suspect, however, that this is more to do with trying to avoid bad publicity over ruined holidays than for any moral reason.

Just to confirm that I successfully used section 75 regs a couple of years back when an airline went under. We had to pay more for replacement flights and used section 75 to successfully reclaim the additional cost from the CC Company. Cant remember for sure but think I used template letters from here at the time. Also think the fact that we stood to lose money on accomodation and car hire was in our favour IIRC

My 83 year old MIL booked a flight EMA-NCE with BMIbaby for 24Aug/14Sep. Received one email saying the booking is cancelled and will receive refund. Now have a second email rebooking only the outward flight from BHX to NCE. The original return flight cost 175 GBP, the outward only flight has been rebooked at a cost of 135 GBP, giving a refund of only 40 GBP. How do we get the total cost refunded?

    Update.
We spoke to Directline holidays and it was the usual "we can do nothing for you" routine.I explained that as they were an ATOL company it was their problem to provide flights........I am not paying extra....then we got into a "how much are you willing to pay towards a replacement flight which is £600 more?" again I replied "nothing"

We managed to find the exact same holiday on Locostholidays for £100 cheaper so we took a refund and booked that. When I said I would take a refund Directline asked would I pay half the £600.....I insisted on the refund.

I feel that if they were willing to try and negotiate on the £600 then they must know that they are responsible or they wouldn't be looking to get "some" of the cost off me.

I have just had a booking cancelled by BMI baby and received a refund for less than I paid for the flights due to a change in the exchange rate (Swiss francs to Sterling)although I had actually asked to be billed in Sterling. This doesn't seem right to me as I am already having to pay more for alternative flights and am not able to book wheelchair assistance on the new flights. I rang BMI baby and both staff I spoke to were very unhelpful.Any suggestions? Is this practice legal?:(

we had flights booked with bmi travelling bham - murcia in late september which have been cancelled. As suggested on here, we wrote to bmi asking to be provided with alternative flights within a week or we would rebook with another carrier and charge them the difference (original charge approx £250 for 2/new carrier charges approx £400)
We had a letter back from them today stating that they could not provide us with an alternative flight. No mention of covering our additional expense for the new carrier charges.
We are still planning to press ahead, book with another carrier and go after bmi for the difference.

The important post is post number 3 on page one of this thread,

which is my copy of Centipede100's post from a different thread
