gas engineer did not turn up

  • Its not really a supplier fault either,be it Brit Gas, EDF or whoever. I ve been listening to complaining householders about meter exchange fitters not turning up fo getting on 8 years now. I have seen the letters United Utilities send out to arrange the changes and in large letters on the headings is says On behalf of British Gas who get all the customer outrage when a bonus hunting fitter can t be bothered to work a bit late and do his job properly. United Utililitys are ruthless and could nt give a hoot about how much money people are losing when no one shows up cheap.Indian call centres deal very badly with the vast numbers of people who ve fallen foul of United Utilities. So to the OP i would say direct your well founded venom to that shower who v been doing this to people for a decade with no come backs.Brit Gas etc must ve had thousands and thousands switching because of them.the meters themselves are not the suppliers as they are owned by National Grid and rented out

If the OP called the supplier, the first post implies its a data flow request issue. This could be the supplier or MAM booking staffs fault. However, when the supplier books them, they give plenty of notice and the MAM, MOP, etc should swiftly reject it if there is a problem.

Suppliers frequently send them wrong and they have to contact the customer 24hrs before the date if it can't be secured by correcting the data flow problem.

Sometimes its backlogs at either end in not transmitting and processing data quick enough. Either way, the data flows will back it all up.

One thing that us bad in the gas industry which does not occur in elec is MAM rebookings. Its part if the process for recertification, but over the years the lovely NGM people have decided if they can't make a meter change for tariff reasons (e.g. PPM to credit), they rebook it and use the recertification data flow process go inform the supplier. They also do it on visits booked Co's change if tenancy issues such as Decom/Recoms! So, the supplier tells the customer the booking they have agreed, NGM change it using a process only meant for recertification Nd the customer never gets the visit! Is anyone kicking NGM for misuse of the recertification data flow process, nope...

Meters are now owned or leased by the suppliers from various companies - not only national grid metering it could be one of several metering companies,

A frequent topic when I meet up with meter fixers I know is the vast distances they now have to travel between jobs with the fragmentation of the idustry. If traffic is bad this results in delays and cancelled jobs.

100+ miles between jobs is not uncommon just to fit a domestic meter. One fixer I know in the midlands tells the of one week when he travelled to Middlesborough one day, and Gloucester the next day. When all meters were owned by one operator in an area he would probably travel 20 in a day and fit around 15 meters.

the reason i was given is the order was not recived properly due to tech problems on the side on the metering company

Wait two weeks and then claim the £22 plus another £22 for failing to pay it within 10 working days. I got over £100 in compensation for missed appointments that way a couple of years ago.

We used to for bgas, only until 13:00 though.

I dont understand how people say they loose money, do people not have holiday from work or something?

BG has its own engineers / rpu, other suppliers have to rely on people like SGN, NG, ENTERPRISE engineers
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • I know its changed a lot now with BG going" in house" with meter exchanges but a lot of the time the fixers could let people know by phone that they can t make it, a simple thing. I am surprised that any of the utilitys allow the contractors around the country to use their name in the initial bookings for a meter exchanges. There really is a huge number of people who wait in all day for nothing, even their initial booking used to say we will arrive " between 8 am and 8pm " how cheeky is that !

BG also contracts out its metering work doesnt it? further i wouldnt say that others "rely" on the likes of..>>etc. They do in fact have contractual agreements with them.

I would say to the OP,write a letter of compliant to your gas supplier i.e E-on. (?)..Make sure you head your letter with the word COMPLAINT otherwise it isnt actually a complaint. It is simply correspondence. Claim your compo. Hopefully get them to agree a timeslotted time to suit you i.e weekend. If not, simply go out to work as normal and let them miss a few appointments and see how they like it.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

Only emergency work or areas like mpan 20/22 where not many suppliers have their own.
